Winner of the 2007 Musikmesse International Press Award (m.i.p.a.) for best studio monitor! |
The A7 Powered Studio Monitor from ADAM Audio matches the A.R.T. (Accelerated Ribbon Technology) tweeter with a state of the art 6.5" woofer. The woofer introduces a new cone material that combines high rigidity and high internal damping with low weight. The result is an extremely accurate studio monitor with all the clarity, detail and spectacular imaging traditionally associated with the ADAM name.
The A7 monitor is powered by two 50W RMS amps (one per driver). The front panel sports both a power switch and volume control. The rear panel houses controls for tweeter level and two shelving filters for high and low frequencies. The A7 powered studio monitor also features both balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) input connectors, allowing it to be used in almost any audio application.
The A7 monitor enclosure is magnetically shielded.
Accelerated Ribbon Technology
The A.R.T. (Accelerated Ribbon Technology) tweeters and midrange units take a completely new approach in kinematics to move air and improve the quality of music reproduction. Based on the original works of Dr. Oskar Heil, who invented his "Air Motion Transformer" back in 1972, new electroacoustic transducers have been developed that are based on improved layouts and new materials. The membrane consists of a lamella like folded diaphragm whose single folds move according to the alternate current, thus squeezing air in and out. All other loudspeaker drive units, whether they are voice coil driven, electrostatics, piezos or magnetostatics, act like a piston, moving air in a 1:1 ratio. This is undesirable, as the specific weight of air is much lower than that of the driving mechanics. Speaking in terms of electrical Engineering one could say there is a bad match between source and load. The A.R.T. principle achieves a 4:1 velocity transformation between driving diaphragm and driven air, i. e. the air moves in and out four times faster than the folds itself are moving. This superior "motor" is responsible for the enormous clarity and transient reproduction that is to be heard from the A.R.T. drive units.
A.R.T. tweeters are superior in musical clarity and transient reproduction. They have an above average efficiency of ~93 dB/W/m, a perfectly linear impedance of 3.2 ñ 0.05 Ohms, an equally perfect phase response of ñ 1ø within the used bandwidth, a reasonable directivity characteristic and a thermal power handlin g that exceeds that of 1" domes by a factor of 2 to 3. Summed up here is a completely new transducer that has no weaknesses in terms of operation, compatibility, reliability or other electroacoustic specifications. Looking back into loudspeaker history you will not find anything comparable.

Clearest Monitors I Have Heard to Date
Posted by Ben from CANADA on Apr 30, 2008

These are the clearest monitors I have ever heard. I used them in a friends studio for 12 hours straight and had no ear fatigue and my mix turned out amazing. I use TRUTH's in my studio and by all means I am very happy with them, but they definately don't have the mid range clarity of these bad boys. Had I heard these before I bought my monitors I would have definately saved up the extra few hundred.

A friend of mine recommended these to me, so I went down to my local music shop and tested these babies out. I tested them alongside Dynaudios and KRK's. The KRK's didnt compare. The Dynaudio's were great but something was missing. Next in line, the Adam A7's, and from then on I was hooked. These are Adam's 'affordable' line of studio monitors, but don't be fooled, these are every bit as impressive as any Adam monitors available. Keep in mind if you're looking for real deep bass you're probably going to want to pick up a subwoofer. Overall I'm just absolutely blown away. I'm able to get into my mixes like never before, and I can finally start making great mixes at home :D Oh, and it's about time a company started putting the power button at the front of their monitors. Go Adam!

At first I was attracted to their design, that's what got me to listen to them before I read any reviews. In the end their sound what nothing less than extraordinary. These truly are better than I ever expected.
If you're considering monitors in this price range, you won't be disappointed with these, they sound like they're worth at least twice what I paid for them.

I don't own a pair of these, but I was about to purchase them until I found out they have NO balanced TRS inputs. What were they thinking?? I'll look for something else, Adam.
