Great on Guitar

I have used this mic for recording rock/alternative guitar in a home studio with great results. I have been very pleased with the results, although I have not done a side by side comparison with other popular guitar mics. I feel this mic is everything they say it is and more. Yes, I would buy it again if it were lost or stolen. Very high quality construction for the low price.

I've used this in live sound applications for both snares and piccolos. I am a big fan! When compared to an SM-57 on a snare drum, it has a more full-bodied sound and a diminished response in the area of 500-1000 hertz. This appeals to me because that is normally where the very annoying 'ping' finds itself in the frequency spectrum. It is well built and has taken it's fair share of beatings from misplaced rim shots having shown no signs of damage. One complaint, however, is a loose cardioid pattern. The hi-hat bleeds fairly easy which really provides a problem when gating a loudly-played kit. But definitely recommend if you need to mic a warm-bodied snare!

This mic isn't cheap.....it's inexpensive, and is worth every bit and more. The sound quality is very crisp and it handles overdrive well when micing a guitar cabinet. It comes with a plastic case which gives me more peace of mind that it will be safe. It comes with a 16" XLR-XLR cable which is very high quality, unlike some of the other cables that are included with other mics. It is great for both home studio recording and live applications because it is very compact and it has a durable metal enclosure.

I would put this mike in the same spectrum as an sm-57 for snare. But really shines on small toms. This mike also works very well for guitar cabs.

Under-estimated microphone

I've always had good results from this mic. I'm suprised it is not more popular. I think it rivals the standard SM57 and dare I say it surpasses with versatility. Its shorter profile makes it less obtrusive to the drummer and it comes with the AKG H440 drum clip. It has a good low end response which is critical to have for modern mixes that use sub sonic boosting for "feeling the sound" so you can match it to the sonic character of the kick drum. If you like the AKG D112 then this is the perfect matching tom/snare mic.
