The D5 dynamic vocal microphone for lead and backing vocals delivers a powerful sound even on the noisiest stage. Its supercardioid polar pattern ensures maximum gain before feedback. The D 5 stands for a crisp sound that cuts through every mix.

AKG made the first microphone diaphragm ever whose thickness varies across its diameter. The Laminated Varimotion diaphragm deep-drawing process allows the diaphragm itself to be fine-tuned with no extra tuning resonators, leading to a quantum leap in audio performance.

The dual shock mount eliminates any kind of mechanical noise for trouble-free live use. The audience will hear nothing but the pristine sound of your voice!

AKG D 5 Supercardioid Handheld Dynamic Microphone Features:

  • Frequency response optimized for vocal use
  • Integrated wind and pop screen for effective suppression of pop and breath noise
  • Frequency independent supercardioid polar pattern for high gain before feedback
  • Patented AKG Laminated Varimotion diaphragm
  • Shock mounted transducer element reduces handling and cable noise
  • Extremely resilient, spring-steel wire-mesh cap for extra impact resistance

Superior Quality Over Industry Standards

Walked into music store ready to purchase an SM-57A. The salesman asked if I'd care to hear several other mics "in the same price range" - I said sure. I didn't see what he grabbed, but he hooked them all up to a test mixer/PA. I tested each one - the D5 won hands down. My jaw hit the floor when he told me the price of the D5 & more so when he told & showed me the price & models of the mics that didn't sound as good. You have seriously gotta give this a try folks - once in a great while, some products just rock WAY more than they have a right to within a certain price range, and this one is one of those beautiful gems. Don't take my word for it, A/B them if you can against anything in its price range - even 2-3 times for that matter. EXTREMELY RECOMMENDED!

AKG D5: Excellent Value & Performance

I was looking for a good dynamic mic for vocals in my studio. My condensers mics are excellent, but a little thin for rock and blues, and my reliable SM 57s are great live, but in the studio sound a little grainy in the high frequencies. My budget was in the $100 range. I tried EV's, Sennheisers, Heils, etc. (even some in the $200 and up range, just for comparison), but nothing sounded as good as the AKG D5. The sonic detail is remarkable for a dynamic, and it doesn't complain when I growl and wail. The wind screen is effective without killing the highs; the low end is warm, without a lot of boominess. It could be a little quieter in terms of handling noise, but the output and signal-to-noise characteristics are excellent.

Outstanding value!

This is a very impressive microphone. AKG has done good. It does have condenser power in both live and recording situations and provides a powerful and accurate representation of your voice. Overall, a very solid microphone that won't let you down.

Good Microphone overall

I just purchased the AKG D5 and have been using it for several pro gigs lately. Although it is a dynamic microphone, this microphone has condenser mic qualities. This is both good and bad. The D5 is a very clear sounding mic and has a warm natural tone I have not found in other microphones in this same price range that I also own (Shure, Audix, EV, Senheiser). My only complaint with the AKG D5 so far, is that I’m a singing drummer and this microphone tends to pick up alot of my drums as well. This is not good if you are doing a concert and each drum has a microphone on them as well as some overhead mics. The AKG D5 vocal mic would make it much more challenging for the soundman to isolate your drums in the drum mix. On the other hand, if you are a singing drummer like me and also do smaller gigs that don't always require that your drums be mic'ed, than this is an excellent vocal microphone for you. Your vocals AND your drums will be heard through the PA system and with pure sonic clarity. If you decide to purchase this microphone, I suggest you get the one with the on/off switch the D5S. Visually, the D5 looks really cool and is made very sturdy. I’m giving it five stars... but keep in mind, the concerns I mentioned.

I am the lead singer for a worship band. I was going to purchase an SM58 at my local music store, but they happened to be out. I needed a mic that day, though, so a salesman recommended this mic. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I sound fantastic, and I can actually hear myself when singing. The gain is great, feedback is not an issue, and it feels good in my hands. I'm so glad that SM58s weren't available that day.
