Not bad for a first condenser

This microphone is my first condenser mic. I primarily use it for recording vocals and acoustic guitar. I was impressed by it's detail and sensitivity (as most people are when first using a condenser mic). I was disappointed though when I listened to what I had recorded, and found that I had to give a big boost to the 3-5khz range to prevent it from sounding dull and muffled. The mic has great sound, but simply doesn't pick up much in the mid-high end range.

Maybe it's just a defect in my mic? Either way, i'm returning it and getting a new one, or a different mic altogether.

Great For The Money!

I got this because it can handle recording guitar amps as well as vocals. It does a pretty good job at both, especially for the money. I have used an AKG414 in the past in professional studio work, and no, the 220 isn't going to give you that kind of $1000 quality, with real even frequency response and crispness. I like the Perception 220, though, because it does have a fairly flat and somewhat warm frequency response. There's a hint of grainy texture in it, though, if you listen closely, and something a little dull compared to say, the 414. There's not a lot of "air" in the high-end, but there's enough. I have used high-quality Cardas cable with this and found these issues. Yet I think it was a great all-around compromise mic, and I chose it over the 120 series because of the larger diaphragm. I would recommend this if you're on a budget and looking for a warm-sounding, all-around workhorse mic.

Great Mic for the Money

I've been using this as my main condenser in my home studio for over a year now and it has been great. I actually dropped it and dented the grill, but it continues to perform perfectly. We used it for vocals, acoustic guitars, and as a room mic for drums on my band's recent album.

Great mic all around

I have owned the Perception 200 for two years. This mic is exceptional. I use mainly use it for recording drums and as a room mic. It picks the drums up nicely and adds warmth to the recordings as it picks up the rest of the band … electric guitar/bass amp(s) and vocals through the PA. Using the perception in this way makes for a neat vintage sound. If you want to hear what it sounds like check out my myspace page. Look for the the sloe kids.

I also use this mic for recording vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar cabinets, organ, as well as noises around the house for sampling. It excels in all of these fields … very warm and clear. It is capable of picking up very quiet sounds from long distances if gain is rather hot. I am very happy with this mic and if it were lost or stolen I would defiantly buy this item again. Every home studio on a budget should have one.
