I got this mic a few weeks ago and finally had a chance to test it out on a drum kit for a song i was working on. previously i was stuck using an SM-57 for an overhead mic and with the addition of the AKG the drums sound AMAZING. the set up is AKG 420 for over heads..SM-57 on snair, SM-57 on hats, Audix f10's and f12 for the toms and audix D6 for the kick. with this set up i have gotten a great sound in a less than perfect environment.

I'm a real home studio enthusiast in TX. This Pereception 420 has awesome features and is handy in every situation. Bought it a month ago. I've recorded male/female vocals, acoustic/electric/classical guitars, guitar amps, bass amps, and drums. Everything sounds accurate/bright/full/warm/in your face. I'm able to sit tracks nicely with this mic. Only need to tweak my EQs a bit to get a good mix. This mic has different settings for every setup no matter what it is. I love it. I am saving up for another one.

I used this mic in a studio along with a 414, a tlm 103, and I can honestly say it holds up very well. This is one of the best budget mics on the market, the multiple polar patterns make this an extremely versatile mic.

Using a decent Tube Preamp this sounds very clean and warm on my acoustic guitar. I use it as an overhead/room Mic on my Drums. I even Mic'd my Vox Guitar Amp and got a good clean sound. Now for vocals. I haven't gotten a real chance to play with vocals. But so far it gives me a clean vocal signal when I'm just singing live with it. Haven't got to putting this baby in the studio just yet. But yes, for the price its definitely worth it. Does almost everything.

I bought one of these, and it has done wonders for my vocal tracks. It's also built well. The first day I had it the mic stand tumbled over and it smashed on the floor bending the top wind screen. My heart stopped when i heard that thud, but it works perfectly. Thanks AKG !
