Alesis HD24-No regrets!

Like others, I started with analogue tape, then moved to Adats in the 90's.For the past 8 years I've used the HD24 in a very busy studio. In those 8 years, I've not had any problems with the unit.Zero!I still use the BRC(made in '93)that ran my adats.Whilst a dedicated remote unit for the HD24 would be #1 on my wishlist, the BRC still performs all the basic functions.Cutting and pasting obviously is all done internally. The ethernet data transfer to my PC could be quicker, but really,it isn't that significant an issue.I will buy another unit soon,to enable 48tracks and probably write a similar review in 10 years time. These units sound superb and dare I say it,appear indestructible.

I have been using the HD24 for about 4 years and HD24XR for a couple now, and haven't experienced any trouble with either of them. They have both exceeded my expectations in both performance and reliability. The anonymous fellow from Chester, VA that gave ridiculously low numbers apparently bought a broken unit and didn't bother to get it fixed or replaced. Too bad for him or her. Meanwhile, I'm recording and editing to my hearts' content with a couple of the best pieces of studio equipment available at any price. As stated in another review, a BRC specifically for the HD's is something I would like to have. I used my BRC with them for a while, but there's not much point in it since I sold my ADAT's.

Just hearing about it doesn't get it!

Seeing a couple of stars on this rating really irritates me, this machine is awesome. I've had mine for five months and have never experienced any malfunctions, even formatting a new HD is easy and reliable-no problems. Just follow the instructions. Keep all your recording gear plugged into a good power conditioner-not in the same outlet as your vibrating bed. Common sense. Man this recorder has a lot of features and those that know give it two thumbs up, I don't know what the others are doing wrong-except not owning it, if you want to play with computers to record fine, but this 24 track with it's 96 khz converters at 112 db will take what you put into it and give it back-clean, I master to a Masterlink 9600 also fantastic and what a great pair. Don't let the low rating fool ya, this is one awesome 24 track recorder. It kicks the Db's.

HD24 & HD24XR

This is one mighty fine hard disk recording machine. Both the HD24 and HD24XR have been efficient and trustworthy for the past two years I've been using them. I only wish Alesis would make a Big Remote Controller specifically for them, working with the small keypads on the face is a bit laborious. But, for the price, a little inconvenience doesn't hurt much. Excellent product!

I had this thing for less than a month, and it stopped working. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
