Works well on a Mac

Exactly what I was looking for - an inexpensive solution to hook up the guitar to the computer for practice and to hear "how I sound". I am using this with Garageband '09 on a Macbook Pro. Set audio input to "USB Device" and audio out to "built in" (headphones) and enable monitoring in Garageband. Works like a charm, no latency problems.

I was dubious of the more expensive USB interfaces. I didn't want to spend $150+ just to get a signal into my computer. I'm very pleased with the GuitarLink. Guitar-to-computer, amp line out-to-computer, digital recorder-to-computer: all worked great with some Audio Preferences/Properties tweaking. I don't know how this compares to proper interfaces but for simplicity and price, great product.

Great Inexpensive Solution For Computer Recording

I purchased this cable as a less expensive route to trying out guitar amp modelling software and recording tracks in free DAW software, since I cannot afford a fancy soundcard for my laptop and hate to deal with the dongles.

Once I got it, I noted that the cable was a bit thin and the USB side was a bit brittle-looking. However, once I plugged it in and my computer recognized it, the cable worked as described - better than trying to line-in or go through the mic input. The only problem I have is that when the GuitarLink is plugged in, my Windows sounds as well as MIDI and MP3 playback on certain programs is not audible, possibly due to a DMA conflict. Alesis does give a workaround, I just haven't implemented it yet.

All around, this is a great piece of equipment to own if you're just dabbling in DAW software and want to record your guitar, or if you want to try out the guitar amp modelling software that's out there.

Sucks!

Ok, they tell you that you can record from your guitar. Yes, you can, however, you can not HEAR what you are recording while you play it. You will see a wave file of what you are playing, but won't hear anything. As soon as I plug it in to the usb port, it disables the audio output and I can only get it back when I unplug the cable from the usb port. Then I can hear what I played. This is the most useless cable I can imagine. Get the Lexicon alpha. That one is worth every penny!
