i purchased these speakers with the idea that they would pack a big sound, boy was i wrong... they are loud!!! they are small, they look good, but there is pretty much no sound quality, the bass boost on the back is a joke, you would be alot better off buying computer speakers for a hundred dollars than buying these, because trust me these not what you want for recording... Just a note i was using these to reord alot of guitar riffs, and i usually play alot of fast metal, or hard rock so if that is ur thing u definetley dont want these things...

These Alesis M1 monitors are very nice. Don't confuse inexpensive with being cheap - these aren't cheap. They are small and low wattage for monitors, but they are high quality and work well for a small home studio. I used to use regular old computer speakers out of my mixer, but these Alesis monitors are way better. If you're recording and mixing music you'll be better off with these than pc speakers. The difference in clarity and bass response is amazing. And they're LOUD too!

Impressive for the $$$

I was using an Altec Lansing computer speaker setup (subwoofer + 2 satellites) as my studio monitor. They sounded good with plenty of volume, but I feared my mixes were being "colored" by speakers with bass & treble controls designed to make "already processed" music sound good. I wanted something with a "flat" response, but didn't have a lot of money to spend. So, I bought the Alesis M1 Active 320 USB to see how "studio monitor" sound would differ from "computer speaker" sound. Since the Alesis had no subwoofer & puny woofers, I didn't expect much bass. I was wrong. The M1 doesn't have as much bass as the Altecs with subwoofer, but what bass they do have is plenty adequate & much tighter. The whole sound is less muddy and more well defined from top to bottom, and I think that's the whole point. I know one could spend hundreds more for better monitors, but I'm no pro. For the price & for my needs, these work very well.

I'm running these out of a eurorack ub802 mixer that I use for just about everything... guitar direct recording, tv/media center, etc...

They sound good and clear with plenty of volume for their size. Others have said they don't have a lot of volume, but I don't see that problem. I wonder if it's because of different setups and inputs we're all using. I don't use them for mixing, so I can't comment on that.

The number of input choices, sound quality and power make them unmatched in this price range. The wire to the left speker is too short, but you can use any mono or stereo 1/8" patch cable.

These monitors have a good bass sound for their size and power rating. They're good especially for listening back after laying something down to listen for flaws. I wouldn't advise mixing with them without headphones standing by for another reference because they're not very loud and sometimes you can miss things. But I like them for what they are
