Improving on an award-winning formula, Alesis reengineered the speaker components of their famous M1 Active to produce the powerful Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors. And they didn't boost the price. Internal active crossover and newly designed dual amplifiers ensure a broad, extremely accurate frequency response, clear imaging with a wide sweet spot, high power handling and detailed highs and mids. 6.5" woofer cone is high tensile strength, low weight, non-woven carbon fiber providing quicker transient response in the low frequency range and more detailed upper mids. 1" pure silk dome tweeter for natural response and less ear fatigue. Internally mounted phasing plug and ferrofluid cooling. 75-watt woofer amp and 25-watt tweeter amp with 8th-order high-and low-pass electronic crossover filters. 2kHz critical crossover to improve mid-frequency response and midrange coloration. Time alignment circuitry maintains synchronization of the high and low drivers.

Cab offers smooth radiused corners for reduced edge-diffraction and magnetically shielded drivers for use near computer and video monitors. Horizontal or vertical placement.

I've been making music for almost twenty years and the Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII's are worth their weight in gold! I've been through more monitor manufacturers over the years than most engineers. And this pair has found a comfortable home among my vintage Tannoy Baby Gold set and my ever-present Yamaha NS-10's.

The MKII monitors boast a very accurate mid-range, a smooth low-end and high frequencies that shimmer not sparkle. For rooms that are true, there is no better price for performance punch.

Stuff the bass ports

These speakers work great if you use them at mid volume with either one or both bass ports filled. Run a spectrograph plug-in on a track of a similar style of music and then put the same plug-in on a track recieving input from a "flat" reference mic in the position that you listen from. Stuff socks or towels in the bass ports(like it states in the manual) and move the mic closer or further away until the two graphs match as closely as possible. You could also to use the same technique with a tone generator and sweep the frequencies up and down and watch the peak holds on your multiband spectrograph plug-ins until they're close. Too much of any frequency in monitors means not enough in the mix etc, etc...

I've had a pair of these for a few years and have never had problems monitoring at high volumes. They are bass heavy but, as they say, either have a perfect listening environment or know your environment's faults and apply them to your mix. I also have a set of NS-10s and the two together are a perfect match since the NS-10s are so good at setting bass level. I've heard Tannoys and Behringers in this price range and, though the bass is not accurate through the MKIIs, their overall performance is much better which results in better mixes.

Alesis makes these speakers attractive with THE PRICE. But, don't be fooled, these speakers are not as good as higher priced models. They will meet your everyday demands, but are NOT meant to be pushed. The quality is not there. My speakers were sent back 3x's!. One speaker flat out died, it was sent back to me NON-WORKING, then sent back again & blown woofer. Both speakers clipped right out of the box new. The fact that Alesis is based in RI and I'm from RI is probably the only reason why I still have these. My major complaint is TOO MUCH BASS. The bass overpowers the necassarily nice even sound that comes from these. With no trims on freq, bass will prove to be a problem for you. The front dual ports will also interferre w/the sound at higher levels. If you need speakers in a smaller room w/min requirements, these will be great - at lower sound levels the sound is very nice & quality rich. If you need a speaker for higher sound levels - do not get these, you will quickly discover their limitations.
