Great sound at a great price

I've been working with these for almost a year now. Before this I was working with M-Audio BX5A monitors. I found that these are a lot more accurate, and they don't cause the ear fatigue I was getting when I was working with the M-Audio speakers.

These are not monitors I would use to mix super bass intensive music, but there aren't many near field monitors I can think of that can do a really good job of getting that sound without a sub-woofer.

I can pull all the detail out of my mixes, and I've listened to a lot of stuff to compare my mixes to on them, and they show stuff that most speakers just can communicate.

Sure there are better monitors out there, but I haven't seen any for close to this price.

I've been using & abusing these for over 2 years. My mixes still come out incredible. Be sure to couple with a subwoofer to avoid exaggerated bass. Best value speakers I've ever bought.

Good Response (But NOT for thumping)

These monitors are real good near-field monitors and they pick up everything that's on disk. Best bet that if it sounds good through these monitors, it sounds good anywhere you play it. Just note that even though people say what good bass response these monitors have---They do NOT thump bass like I was expecting. I have been producing hip hop / rnb / anything urban music for 7 years now when I decided to get these, thinking they alone would replace my previous speakers and 12 inch subwoofer. I got to say I was dissapointed when I heard the 'bass response' everyone was hyping over. Still I can't let that take away from the real quality of these monitors. I suppose for anybody who does acoustic type music would love the bass response these give out but if you do any urban type music or even electronic where heavy bass needs to be monitored, add a sub to the setup and you'll be set.

Sound Portrait Clarity

I may have one deaf ear, though I'm still able to distinguish what is good and what is not in terms of the overall sound (subjectively commenting). These monitors were the best purchases I have ever committed to, in my humble opinion. They are very flat and dry, which is quite ideal for mixing, but 'audio murder' when watching movies with 'em. Please note that you will need a separate power amplifier to power these up, since they are not active monitors. At first, second, third and fourth listens, I hear a lot more detail in most recordings with these than previous systems I tested out. By far, for the price, these have beaten out M-Audio monitors, which competes with their exaggerated mid-ranges and 'pathetic' low-ended frequencies, and Yamaha (flat, but exaggerates a bit on the mid-range and higher ended frequencies) as well as some KRK models. I had a sound engineer examine them as well and was quickly impressed with these monitors. After painstakingly tuning my room, I examined old recordings I have done and can hear what is lacking (frequency-wise). These are definitely worth the investment. Please note, I have had a previous encounter with Alesis products breaking down, so make a weary investment in insuring these - talk to your sales agent about extended warranty coverage because they are not that expensive, but will help protect your investment. What's more, my comments are subjective rather than being objective. Reference monitors anyone would choose might be ideal for his or her preference, but I wanted my monitors to sound flat and dry. These are quite flat and dry, and is most needed for the kind of musical work that I do. These get my top ratings. Good job, Alesis!

Anyone who is working to put together a studio knows that it's all about eliminating the "weak links" in their gear. When I got these Alesis monitors... problem solved! Great, accurate full range sound, now my mixes "travel" much better to any listening environment. I have friend who owns those powered E-Mu speaks and he comes to my place to master his most important projects.
