Enough channels for the band and FireWire recording! |
This dual-purpose unit is a FireWire interface with real faders, knobs, and EQ, and it's also a rockin' standalone analog mixer with quality Alesis effects and flexible signal routing. Each input channel on the mixer (plus the stereo mix) is sent into your computer and a stereo output is received from the computer for monitoring. Its versatility will fit your needs in your project studio, for live sound, portable recording with a laptop, sub mixing, and radio/TV production.
You get preamps with XLR and 1/4" balanced ins and phantom power on mono channels; balanced 1/4" ins, aux send, and stereo aux return on stereo channels; 28-bit effects; 3-band EQ on each channel; 1/4" balanced main and monitor outs; a headphone jack; and 24-bit, 44.1/48kHz A/D/A conversion. Steinberg Cubase LE is included.
From studio to stage
The MultiMix FireWire lets you record your band during the day and mix your live gig at night. Every input plus the stereo mix is sent to the computer while a stereo pair returns from the computer into the MultiMix for monitoring (and headphone mixes).
24-bit, 44.1/48kHz operation
The MultiMix uses the same A/D and D/A conversion as the esteemed Alesis HD24 recorder-clean, pure, and totally professional conversion.
Next-generation FireWire technology
The MultiMix uses the brand new, high-performance TC Applied Technologies Dice II FireWire chip. Superior clocking, state-of-the-art interfacing, and robust drivers all come standard!
Alesis effects built in
The MultiMix FireWire has 100 of Alesis' 28-bit digital effects built in. Reverbs, choruses, delays, and other effects can be mixed into your recording path or just used for zero-latency headphone mixes (the performer hears reverb in the headphones, but the track is recorded dry into the computer).
Rack it up
The MultiMix is rackmountable, with easy-to-attach rack ears available.

This product is difficult to get working with Sonar (I tried 2.2xl and 7)... It takes a considerable amount of fine tuning to get the buffers configured properly to avoid clicks in the recording. I've had it working at one point, but never reliably. Now, whenever I try to record with it, it causes my computer to shut down instantly. I borrowed a friend's M-audio 1814 and didn't have a single issue, and using this for preamps into it.

I bought this a year ago for a small home studio for family enjoyment. I really wanted the firewire component and that limited choices. I decided to try to limit the budget since I really did not know how much use it would get and this was my first setup.
It performed adequately, though there was more noise than reasonable unless the volume was low. this has worsened over the year and vairies between inouts. We now consider only 3 of the inputs quiet enough to use. the other channels have just too much noise to tolerate.
I now wish I bit the bullet and spent more the first time.

I am commenting to save other people from wasting their money like I did. DO NOT BUY! It is a fine mixer, but it totally sucks for recording. You will spend more time troubleshooting than actually recording, IF you ever get it working for an extended period of time. I have lost countless hours over the last six months fighting with mine. In forums, I have seen many other people experiencing the same problems. Alesis really bombed on this one. It looks too good to be true because it is! If you want 4, 8, or 12 tracks of simultaneous recording, pony up for a decent digital interface from a credible manufacturer.

Trying to use it was a nightmare. I downloaded the new drivers and attempted to use, but had to instll and uninstall several times. I heard playback for a while, then the audio card disappears out of cubase. I'm using cubase 4. I'm trying to do some recording and have been frustrated by the constant instability of this product. I'm using a dual core 2.0 ghz machine running xp pro, maybe that has something to do with it? However, the specs stated that it work with XP?? Not to mention that I had to switch from Vista, doesn't work with that at all, to XP and still I have these problems and no response from Alesis support all day?? Guess what sounds too good to be true, usually is....

Great purchase for the hobby studio. 12 channel mixer and digital interface for this price, works for me. I was concerned when I read some reviews of people having problems, escpecially with Sonar, since that is what I am running. Contacted Alesis tech support before I bought, they confirmed that it works with Sonar. I installed the updated drivers and firmware from the Alesis website and everything has been fine. I can record multiple channels simultaneously (some people reported problems). I recommend for the project studio crowd.
