Right-facing Top Rear Powersupply CD

The Alesis MultiMix 16 FireWire 16-Channel Analog Mixer is a dual-purpose unit: it's a FireWire interface with real faders, knobs, and EQ, and it's also a rockin' standalone analog mixer with quality Alesis effects and flexible signal routing. Each input channel on the mixer (plus the stereo mix) is sent into your computer and a stereo output is received from the computer for monitoring. Its versatility will fit your needs in your project studio, for live sound, portable recording with a laptop, sub mixing, and radio/TV production.

You get preamps with XLR and 1/4" balanced ins and phantom power on mono channels; balanced 1/4" ins, aux send, and stereo aux return on stereo channels; 28-bit effects; 3-band EQ on each channel; 1/4" balanced main and monitor outs; a headphone jack; and 24-bit, 44.1/48kHz A/D/A conversion. Steinberg Cubase LE is included.

From studio to stage

The MultiMix FireWire lets you record your band during the day and mix your live gig at night. Every input plus the stereo mix is sent to the computer while a stereo pair returns from the computer into the MultiMix for monitoring (and headphone mixes).

24-bit, 44.1/48kHz operation

The MultiMix uses the same A/D and D/A conversion as the esteemed Alesis HD24 recorder-clean, pure, and totally professional conversion.

Next-generation FireWire technology

The MultiMix uses the brand new, high-performance TC Applied Technologies Dice II FireWire chip. Superior clocking, state-of-the-art interfacing, and robust drivers all come standard!

Alesis effects built in

The MultiMix FireWire has 100 of Alesis' 28-bit digital effects built in. Reverbs, choruses, delays, and other effects can be mixed into your recording path or just used for zero-latency headphone mixes (the performer hears reverb in the headphones, but the track is recorded dry into the computer).

Rack it up

The MultiMix is rackmountable, with easy-to-attach rack ears available.

Only a few small flaws

I have used this mixer in my project studio for a little over 6 mo's and I'm very pleased so far. I rated the quality as a 4 for 2 primary reasons: (1) the preamps on this board are kind of weak. However, if you use boutique preamps then you will get a sound transparent enough from the mixer to accurately reflect the character of your preamp. (2) Occasionally, the mixer drops its firewire connection to the computer. (a macbook running Digital Performer 5.1) Thi has only happened when I'm listening to music, so it's not that big of a deal, I just powered off and issue was resolved. All in all, this is a great mixer. Plus, all of your EQ from the board is sent via firewire, a clear advantage over the Mackie units.

Have had this mixer for about a year and half. As a back-up mixer for live band use,it is OK. Not bad mic pre-amps and no real issues. Also use it for practice room mixer with same results. As a Firewire mixer interface for recording I had troubles with connecting to my Dell Inspiron notebook. Random crashes, and driver failures that would make me have to reboot often and lose recordings were aggravating (spl?). Sometimes the drivers would just plain fail and I had to un-install the drivers and then re-install from scratch to make them work. However with the current update from the Alesis support website for both the softwaree drivers and the Firmware update solve all these problems. It now runs smoothly with no glitches so far. It actually works now like its suppose to. So I can recommend this mixer to you with the understanding you should update all drivers from the Alesis website.

If you want a broadcast-level desk system, you'll have to spend more than this - no matter what brand. This replaces at least two items (mixing board and comp. interface) and gives you very acceptable quality in terms of inputs, preamps and floor noise. I use it in my home studio and live PA mixing rigs. Thanks to this board, I also multi-track all live shows to a laptop for a re-mixable live recording of every show. Most people who use this in the field will not be able to find noticably better equipment for less than 2 1/2 times the price - and certainly not in one unit!

This is one gorgeous machine no doubt. Beyond that it's got pristine sound in all aspects and the firewire is amazing, allowing professional multitracking both with or without fx; even simultaneously putting it's flexible routing options to use. On that note the fx are of course Alesis quality and a pleasure to use as is the multimix 16 all the way round, just remember to install the latest driver and firmware update from website and find your sweet spot as far as latency settings for various applications and in varying computing environ (turn off anti-virus etc unnecessary background processes to get low latency) It's the liberating cutting edge professional amazingly versatile gear you've been waiting for! I've used multiple digital recording devices and this is truly the Leader of the Pack!!! I use with adobe audition and it's been smooth and pristine. Working in my project studio has lost it's tedious editing dread; beyond that I'm still putting this unit through it's paces after over a month and it's rock solid! Oh yeah, did I mention the Pristine Sound!!! WOW!!! I had the Alesis fusion for awhile didn't care for it, returned it and got a Korg TR76 instead and loving it but I have to say KUDOS ALESIS this is a work of art!!! I had bought the phonic release first but it had too many issues to name, returned it and got this and as you've read; could not be happier!!! Buy it, you'll be glad you did!!!

I purchased this to replace a couple of seperate componants (Computer Interface, Mixer, Basic EFX processor)The interface I was using was propriatary and only worked with its own software so I wanted something more flexable. This unit did that it reduced the clutter and gave me flexibility but there are a few negatives. It works better with Mac than PC, Knobs are cheesy but work, would be nice to have level indicators for each channel. Overall its a good unit for a home studio and I am happier with it than I was with my previous setup. Tech Support is Great!!
