Good mixer-OK recorder

This is a good mixer, in quiet type situations you can go without using an amp and just hook some speakers. I use it as a PA in band rehearsal sometimes, it works really good that way but if you have drums in the room you will need an amp. As for recording, it works well for demos but don't get any ideas about recording band rehearsal or anything like that, it is pretty easy to get some clipping on the Ipod. I generally use it as an interface with my laptop for recording and don't use the Ipod to record at all. It's a good machine though and totally worth the cost.

Useful and versatile tool

I've been using mine for nearly a year to mix for and record a weekly open mic event. It works as advertised, is simple to operate if you know mixers at all, and the recording feature has greatly simplified setup. I used to record with a standalone 16-track Fostex, but this is just as useful for capturing the stage mix. It's proven to be durable and reliable. It eats the iPod battery quickly though, unless you use the record-charge feature. That, in turn, sometimes induces a low-frequency noise in quiet passages; a good fix would allow charging while recording without the noise. Now I want to look at the 16.

Extremely Versitile

I love this mixer because it is so versitile. It's a nice (descent quality) small-format mixer. Plus being able to record and play from your ipod or computer is very nice. The manual says that it works with the ipod nano, 2nd generation only, but it does in fact work with the 3rd and 4th generation nanos as well. The only complaints I have about it is that it's not rackmountable (some of the other alesis mixers are), as well as some very minor, minor picky issues about the design. But overall, it is a great mixer, with tons of features for what you pay for.
