The Alesis iO|14 is a professional—level computer recording interface in a convenient, portable tabletop design. The iO|14 interface utilizes DICE II FireWire technology for big bandwidth, fast signal handling, and lots of digital headroom. high quality interface, complete package

At first I could get the Alesis i0|14 to record and playback only occasionally. But with a bit of persistence I discovered that the problem was not at all with the unit or even it's drivers, but instead with compatibility issues with my DAW and Apple OSX/Leopard and also Leopard itself which on my new iMac needed to be upgraded from 10.5 to 10.5.1. Once solving these issues, the Alesis i0|14 performed excellently. I'm mainly using this particular system to record my grand piano and I found the mic pre-amps to sound clear, detailed and accurate. No problems recording at high sample rates, a big feature of this recording interface. Essentially, this one unit effectively takes the place of my previous audio interface, MIDI interface, a dedicated mic pre-amp and a mixer as well (for monitoring at zero latency). All in all, lots of connections, ultra high sample rates, great mic pre-amps, mixer functions, metering, ease of use, design and styling, I give it high marks. I chose this unit because it seems to have all of these unified features more-so than what I've seen from competing products, plus I've had great results from Alesis products for years.

Pros: Amazing connectivity for the price. Sturdy, beautiful design Cons: No on/off, both headphone jacks in back Big Con: Mine worked only sporadically over 3 weeks. Sometimes audio would cut out, and sometimes no power. Returned it.
