A massively versatile makeover of the popular GL2200.
The dual-function Allen & Heath 32-channel GL2400-32 Live Console is loaded to the teeth with the features you need for all kinds of mixing applications. It offers 4 group, 6 aux, and LR mixes, enhanced 7x4 matrix, multi-source stereo channels, and aux-fed subs capability.
Dual Functionality:
When mixing front-of-house, the monitors can be set pre-insert as well as pre-EQ to prevent your house mix EQ and compression affecting the stage mix. Per channel aux switching means you can mix pre-fade with post-fade sends such as theatre radio mics and sound effects. As a monitor console, the aux masters have faders, inserts, mutes, meters and balanced XLR drive. You even get a fader controlled engineer' wedge feed with Allen & Heath's GL2400-32 mixer. The Groups and LR mixes are still available to create yet more sends. In monitor mode the GL2400 can provide up to 10 mixes, for example 6 wedge and 2 stereo IEM.
Performance:
Allen & Heath's new mic preamp has an extended 74dB gain range with massive headroom able to deal with the widest range of signals right up to +34dBu. From a new low-noise mix amp through responsive 4-band EQ to the differential balanced +26dBu outputs, every stage has been carefully designed to ensure optimum gain structure and the best sonic performance possible.
Third Fader:
There are 3 master faders on the GL2400 mixing console. A configurable M fader lets you create an LR sum mono fill, an engineers monitor wedge feed, or a dedicated center or sub-bass speaker mix from Aux 6 which means you can dial in exactly what you need from each channel. L, R, and M each provide a dedicated meter, mute, AFL, and balanced XLR output.
7x4 Matrix:
The matrix is a big feature for corporate AV work, specialized recording and broadcast feeds, and personal monitoring. Smart auto-switching of the external inputs lets you add a common mono, stereo, or independent source to the matrix. Cross patch from the stereo channel mic breakpoints to add room ambience to your recording and IEM feeds.
Dual Stereo Channels:
These 2 multi-function channels provide a mic and 2 stereo line inputs each. Use the channels as mic inputs while the 4 stereos are independently routed to LR, or combine stereo sources such as backing tracks and reverbs while the mics are patched elsewhere. Or use conventional stereo channels while the second inputs provide additional returns and the mics patch into the matrix for ambience.

The only reason I give this a 4/5 on quality is they had a bad run on power supplies. Mine quit on me the second show I did and I called tech support and explained about a recall on the power supply. Sent it back for a whole new mixer and it's been fine ever since. I absolutely love the EQs... just as good as Midas at half the cost!

Mediocre experience with monitors

I used this desk as a walk-in monitor engineer. I have used the 24 channel version and loved it and I own a 16 channel Gl2200. This desk however had some problems. The company that owned it told me this was the first time it had been out on a show but had been broken-in in their shop. The pre's sounded good and the EQ worked fine. This may just be the Allen and Heath but the sends on the group inserts were hot! I also would loose my group one with no warning. In order to get it back I would have to crank audio from a talk-back into it. Not a pleasant experience in the least.

Great Dual Purpose Board

I use this board for recording and sending signal to my live room PA. I'm really happy with the sound of this board. Punchy mic pres, a bit aggressive on the EQ's, but the matrix mixer section is pretty cool. I set the jumpers in the console on each track to allow EQ's before the direct out section for recording. I would have set the stereo channels at the end of the board. Sets off my channels by two after CH 14 in my 24 track set-up. I use this with two HD192's and I like the tones that I get. Very organic. Phase flip, line/mix switch and phantom pwr switch for each channel is a standard for these mixers. The dual purpose feature is awesome. Can be a monitoe/live mixer or a recording console. Just wish it had 8 group channels instead of 4. Pink noise and 1K test tone for calibrating with a DAW set-up was really nice. Great analog console. Helps to get those 'real' sounding tones.
