More BANG for the buck! These lights are made well without excess weight. The overall throw of the lighting is well focused and the 300 watt bulb gives great reflection of the gel you use. A REAL value!
how bright it is!!

If your band needs lighting with serious out-put, these lights are what you need! The 300 watt bulbs only draw 2.72 amps each. Thats only 10.9 amps total, using 4 cans! We have more than enough stage lighting and dont get the "heat" like the 64's put out. Cans are well built and come complete with heavy duty bulb, 4 gels, safety cable, and heavy duty c-clamp!
Get the job done

I do the sound and lights at The Shop, a smallish music venue in Sonoma CA. We run about 8 of these durring our shows with assorted colors (we've got a couple of the gel packs with the alternate ones) and haven't had any issues with them yet. Darker gels (purple) don't really go well with them though, as they don't let a whole lot of light out, but other than that they're fine.
Don't count on getting a complete package

I've ordered three of these. The first two were fine, but the last one showed up dented & without the gel frame (the packaging & mounting bracket weren't even the same as the first two, so I believe that I was sent some kind of "generic" PAR light, instead of the American DJ PAR). I've called several times about those issues & was told that a gel holder would be sent. What I've gotten is nothing but excuses & run-around. In the meantime, I paid for a PAR 56 that I can't use. It's being returned, as I type this review.
Great value in a pretty good PAR kit

This is a complete, ready-to-use kit that includes the fixture, an unlabeled 300 watt lamp (which turns out to be medium flood), power cord with molded plug, safety cable, clamp, gel holder and four gels. There were no directions or other documentation in the box.
We purchased a dozen of these kits for permanent installation in a church. At $** apiece, they are proving to be exceptionally cost-effective: ordinarily I would expect to pay $**-*** for a wired fixture, lamp, clamp, and safety cable.
The fixture is reasonably well made, and arrived in good condition. The heat resistant ceramic socket is rated for 1000 watts, which is fairly conservative. There appears to be a thermal cutout switch in the back cap, which is a good thing: the power cord and strain relief are plastic and will not withstand high temperatures. The fixture has spring-loaded gel holder clips, designed to accept the octagonal gel holder. This seems to be a secure arrangement, and keeps the gel in place and flat. A wire mesh prevents big chunks of broken lamp from falling from the fixture. Finally, the power cord is just over two feet long, which works in our application but is rather on the short side. Finally, the lamp can be rotated by removing the end cap (this is important because PAR lamps have ellipical beams).
The safety cable is more than adequate, which is a good thing: the C-clamp is extremely light duty and does not inspire confidence. The hole in the fixture's bracket is sized for a 3/8" bolt, but the clamp attaches with only a 1/4" screw. Aside from being a sloppy fit, it does not feel secure enough for an item being suspended. (We don't use the clamps in our application anyway, preferring to use 3/8" lags directly into the wooden beams... so this wasn't a big deal to us.)
Bottom line: this isn't up to the quality of a professional fixture like an Altman, but then not all applications need that degree of robustness. Since the optical characteristics are determined by the lamp and not the fixture, this performs just as well at a fraction of the cost.
