Cool synth sounds only a Moog can make. A fantastic software version of the analog modular synthesizer technology that Moog Music introduced in the '60s. This emulation cuts no corners, and contains many realistic, accurate features such as front panel controls and switches, virtual patch cords, envelope generators, LFOs, and other traditional control functions, all manipulated by the click of a mouse! Robert Moog took part in the development, and gave Arturia permission to use the Moog name. Also uses MIDI, allows easy loading and saving of patches, and polyphonic tone generation.

  • Accurately emulates the original Moog

I've always wanted a Moog Modular, but they're too expensive and rare. The Modular V is incredibly realistic. It even has the patch cables (and yes, they do wobble when you mouse over them). It might be a little confusing to someone who's new to synthesizers, but the presets should give you a head start. The only problem is that the sounds have a one second delay. I'm using a relativly fast computer and an Evolution MK-425C, so it's the software's fault. That's really annoying if you can't quantize your notes. Other than that, it's great!

This is not your ordinary software instrument. This doesn't sound like a software instrument. This sounds just like the real thing. From the punchy, earth-shaking lows to the sharp, crisp highs, Arturia captures the warmth and beauty of the Moog synthesizer accurately in every respect. My only complaint is that the pulse width knob cannot be directly mapped to a MIDI CC but the obvious workaround is to patch it to the modwheel. For a software instrument like this, having a MIDI keyboard controller with plenty of controls to work with is essential. The 16 knobs on my E-mu X board is barely enough for my most common parameter changes.

As far as gigs go, you could always load this onto a high-end laptop. My Acer travelmate 8200 with a PCMCIA audigy 2 zs runs it nicely! =)

If you came here looking for a software instrument that is powerful, versatile, rich, and reasonably-priced, this is for you.

Switched on - to eleven!

Just bought it after downloading many, many other software synth demos. A lot of other keyboards have around 3 oscillators. This has NINE. The possibilities are "unlimitless". Plus, this is tweaked out with extras that are physically impossible on the original unit, while still retaining 100% faithfulness to the original unit circa 1974. Even the analog imperfections in the waveforms and modulations are very very very closely replicated. No aliasing, even up to 16kHz! This beautiful machine is muscularly capable of contemporary sounds - even Brian Eno's sound from the Dune soundtrack - the "Prophecy Theme". Also check out Native Instruments' Pro-53 for an equally switched on replication of the legendary Prophet-5. Don't worry about the price tag, it's worth every penny. A CPU cruncher, yes, but it runs just fine on my 1.8 GHz P4 with Sound Blaster Extigy. No knobs to break, no oscillators to lose tune, no key contacts to get dirty. The only drawback is that you can't gig with it, unless you like bringing your desktop. (Which weighs probably a hundredth of the original unit's mass.) It has managed to please the socks off of me - a horridly incurable perfectionist. No mean feat.

Moog Modular V2

I have no idea if this sounds like a Moog Modular or not, since I have never had the opportunity to play one. But it doesn't matter, because the MMV2 sounds great. It can do leads, pads, FX and great basses. I think Arturia has raised the bar on how a soft synth should sound. A great manual comes with it as well. The MMV2 could be a great teaching device in the way it shows how the sound is routed.

I own a Mini-Moog, Arp oddyssey, Micro-Moog, Yamaha CS-60, and a bunch of other sought-after dinosaurs. This Moog V is very true to the real thing and doesn't have the mechanical delicateness of the original gear. I also like the new Micron, which is a faithful Min-Moog sound! It stays in tune!
