Good Concept, Bad Result

The concept of this mic is good, however, it was disapointing to hear. I used it on Kick drum and it sounded like two different frequency bands were 'fighting' Low end very poor and the high end 'condenser' side was bland. I had to really EQ the kick drum to the lo end out and boost the 1.6 to 2Khz to get somewhat of a bass drum tone. If you want to get low end along with high end attack, go ahead and get a Sennheiser E602 and a Shure Beta 91 and use them together, using two separate channels. But don't waste your money unless you're going to get this mic for other applications, like guitar mic. FYI, Signal chain used with mic; AE2500 to Midas XL200, processed by Drawmer gate.

I use this mic for my guitar cab and it is the best thing since sliced bread. I love it and have never sounded so good. My soundmen try to steal it from me..haha..

Guitar players.. ditch your SM57.. this is it.. don't think, just get it.

Not for Kicks

This is a great mic. Just not very good for kick drums. This is a great mic for guitar cabs. It has better low frequencies than a 414, a fuller richer tone. Plus a decent stereo image with both mics in the capsule.

Capture the full spectrum of your kick

I recently upgraded from an Audio Technica AT-25 to the AE2500 for recording my kick drum and it's amazing! The condenser element really captures the impact of the beater on the batter head. It does pick up the deep overtone as well but the dynamic element does it in a warmer way. If you have the tracks to spare, record each element seperately. If not, tune each channel and subgroup them into one track, you'll be amazed at how precise the kick will sound.

The mic includes the clip and a cable with 2 XLR ends labeled for condensor and dynamic and a carrying case. This is the best my kick drum has ever sounded!

Total disappointment

I have been a sound guy for over 8 years. I also am a drummer. I used this on my kick drum on a killer P.A. We're talking 4 18's, dual 15's...all Meyer sound and Allen & Heath. I wasn't getting the thump or I wasn't able to get a decent blend. It sound like someone knocking on a door with some bass added to it. I put in ol' faithful...a BETA 52....WOW! The beta blew the AT out of the water!!!! I was truley disappointed.
