(main) Polar Pattern Graph Frequency Graph

The Audio-Technica PRO 35 clip-on microphone is designed for sax, brass, toms, and percussion. The PRO35 is a cardioid condenser mic that excels in high-SPL (sound pressure level) applications and is ideal for active stage performances. Its extended frequency response captures subtle nuances of the performance. The included UniMount clip permits accurate positioning and provides shock resistance while protecting the element. The microphone's cardioid polar pattern reduces pickup of sounds from the sides and rear, improving isolation of the desired sound source.

•The A-T PRO 35 includes the AT8538 power module, which accepts the PRO 35's locking cable connector and terminates to an XLR male connector for a wired connection to a mixing console etc.

(If you're looking for a wireless solution, the A-T PRO 35cW terminates to a 4-pin connector for use with A-T UniPak bodypack wireless transmitters.)

Requires phantom power.

A Must Have Item

Whenever you need a great mic for an unusual situation, consider this unit. I have used this for picking up bass fiddles, saxophones and banjos for over 2 years and have found that this is superior to many other methods of micing instruments. You must set the EQ for each instrument to achieve the tone that you want but this is normal for any competent sound engineer. As with any condenser mic, speaker placement is critical to avoid feedback. This mic is a bit "hot" so be careful when setting the gain to prevent distortion. The cable is a bit thin and care should be taken to prevent damage to the wire. If the connector is left on the floor there is a possibility of pulling the wire from the capsule. In the more than 2 years I have used this mic I have never had a problem with the unit.

I just took delivery of this mic today - Ordered on Sunday, delivered on Wednesday - and so far it seems to be a very good one (clear sound with lots of depth), except for the very short cable attached to it. Plan to buy an extension cable unless you're going to be standing within arms length of the PA head.

good mic for tenor sax

I'm using this for tenor sax in a big band. It sounds quite good. It's a little bright, and on the bell mounting position, there's a bit of key noise pickup, but it's very clean, so a little EQ makes things right. It's pretty directional, so you can put a good amount of gain in before feedback. Included carrying bag makes for nice storage and protection, and is slim enough to stow everything in my case.

This is a good horn mic, but the term "power module" is misleading. This setup requires phantom power to operate. The "power module" with the unit, is really a voltage converter. If you gig, count on problems getting power from house soundboards OR buy a phantom power supply unit (another thing to lug around and plug in). For a little more, you might be able to buy the AT8531 (a real power module), but for that much total - you would be better off looking at other horn mics.
