#1 snare mic

I dove for this mic after getting an Audix Fusion 7 drum mic kit and hearing how great they sounded for their cost. It was also recommended over the sm57 at multiple music stores to me. Most of its use is the top of a snare along with one of the f10s on the bottom, it helps to deliver a very natural snare sound. I also reach for this guy first to throw at any guitar amp live, and in the studio I pair it up with a condenser for a really fat sound. The i5 next to a Rode NT1000 sounds killer for heavily distorted amps. One thing this definately has over an sm57 is its build quality. You could back this thing over with your car, but the flimsy plastic capsule on the 57 would crush if you sat on it hard. Overall a flawless choice for any application, I only gave it a 4 on features because I think a hypercardiod really would be better for micing drums.

Now that I have owned this mic for over a year, I figured its time to write a review. Considering the basis for comparison of any dynamic microphone is the sm57, I'll say that I own both mics and use them for any quick demo and also use them for final recording mixes. This mic is definitely suited for the stage or the studio... I love this mic for live vocals, toms and guitar cabs in the studio, I feel it has a bit more presence right where you want it as opposed to the shure, which I feel has a little too much highs. It also works well on snares, but I would prefer the sm57 for snare, due to its shape (easier to position). You can feel the reliability of this mic as you hold it, its stout! Buy one and you will be using it for years, regardless of all the reviews you may come across, it is all a matter of personal taste!!! So always remember that when letting these reviews help you make a decision. Hope this helps...Well nevertheless I will be buying another i5 soon!!!

What a great mic

I'm probaly the only one that used this microphone for harmonica. Everyone talks about how much they like this over the sm57. Well, same with me. I tried out this, the sm57, and the green bullet. The 57 was too small to hold, the green bullet was great but i didn't have another amp. The i5 has such a clean sound and it's very bassy. Running this through the PA sounds great. For recording, I use this for harp and also guitar amps. It also sounds great for guitar amps. The casing is also sweet, its a really heavy metal and the whole thing looks slick. Overall, its a great mic. If you play harp and you want a tone like paul butterfield or you want a great sound of guitar amps for live and recording, get this now.

Good Mic

I bought this mic and compared it to my sm57 on snare and guitar cabinet. I still prefer the sm57. They sound pretty close to each other but I still noticed that the sm57 had a tad bit more of that mid I was looking for with out having to mix. The I5 to me had a warmer sound but I was looking to clean things up, the sm57 made it clear and easier for me. Good mic though for the price and it looks cool.
