B-52 support is horrible

I had to send the power amp section of my b-52 in under warranty twice for the exact same problems and the second time it was in the shop for three months and they claimed that it was (a.) stolen, (b.) never made it - despite sending it with delivery confirmation, (c.) still being worked on...well this wnet on for months and the lie told varied with who you talked to. Finally they found it and sent the unit back. One of the problems promptly returned (the power switch failed to power off the unit) and the unit does not develop more than about 50% power....after contacting B-52 about this, they said it was $500 for a new amp secion...I'll go get a used mackie for that. B-52's once famous support is now garbage and so is the ACT-18X.

On the outside this looks like a decent product. Plywood outer shell with nice grille cloth. The power amp seems capable of driving one 18 but does not excel when hooking a passive sub up with it. Features are good with plenty of crossover options.

Unfortunately the speaker is weak for this unit. Sometimes it is clear. Sometimes it sounds like gargling mud. The Sound boards on both cabs developed cracks emitting from the screw holes. Why use particle board on an 18 inch Sub Woofer sound board? One sound board literally broke in pieces.

Built cheap. Not road worthy though Company claims they are. Pull your grills and check for the cracks if you use these often. Wondered why they put fabric behind grill so you cannot see the sound board.

I bought the active sub as a blemished product - it was a great value since the sub is very good product and the blem price finally made it affordable for me. I later bought the passive sub to go with it. These subs are awesome and will shake whatever building you're in. Very powerful and rich tone. I love the active sub because it's one less power amp that the band needs in the PA cabinet. Very well made - solid, sturdy, built to take a beating and keep on playing. Only complaint I have is that the hand-holds are a bit awkward and are uncomfortable if you have to carry the sub any significant distance - but that's pretty minor. I highly recommend them.

I purchased my B52 Act18 speakers seven years ago. I purched two of the powered units. This I felt would give me more reliability and the added abilty to expand by adding two Act 18s passive units if needed. Seven years later I have never had a problem and I did not purchase the passive expansion units. My Act18's have been used in small, medium and large clubs as well as outdoors. They have never let me down. Although some people cannot ever have enough bass, I am very pleased with the sound performance, power and reliability. If you are looking for a quality subwoffer that produces 800W of quality power endlessly, look no further. The B-52 still remains the BEST BANG FOR YOUR HARD EARNED BUCKES. Paul ------ Northern NY

This sub is amazing. It will shake any event, especially with it's sister sub the ACT18XS. This was the first product I had bought from B-52 and I loved it so much, I had to get the rest of the ACT series (1515X, 18XS)
