My guess is that the guy that burned out the speakers may not know a few things about speakers and the power needed to run them. Most people think that you need to have higher power ratings on their speakers than on their amps. This is a big misnomer. Actually your amp needs to have at least a power rating of 1.5 times the power rating of the speakers so you have what is called head room. When you use a lower powered amp and turn up the volume, you will notice distortion. When there isn't enough power to have what is called head room, the amp does a thing called clipping. When an amp starts clipping, it sends AC (voltage) directly to the voice coils which creates high heat and burns them out. I have actually seen a speaker smoke. So, make sure you have at least 1 1/2 times the wattage from the amp as the the speaker you are going to run. example: 500 watt speaker, get a 750 - 1000 watt amp. Another thing that will burn up things is too many speakers run from an amp. The more speakers run parallel, the lower the ohms (resistance) and things heat up.... bye bye amp....
