I cant really agree with the other comments below. I have been using more than 10 DEQ's in fixed installations and they have been performing flawlessly over the last three years. In fact I am about to order another 4 units for a new project. This DEQ is really good and there is nothing out there that comes close in terms of performance and features. This is a fine unit and I can only say well done Behringer.

Nice Idea but..........

The Behringer DEQ2496 is exactly what I like in a system processor with the Parametric and Graphic EQ. But it suffers in quality. The internal chips run far too hot and I get crashes that require a power down reset.

Somewhere, Behringer decided to save a few dollars in the power supply or heat sinking which makes the unit unreliable.

I recently installed several of these units as monitor processing. They work great, loaded with functions. One of the few products that redeems behringer. Have had no "clicks" or "pops" like others state, no issues what so ever.

Great... Except for the bypass relays

These are really awesome when they work... I've had problems with the bypass relays where the connectors in the relays weren't making full contact with the pads in normal effect mode (non-bypass). All the other parts are great quality, but those mechanical relays just cause too much trouble. It's not hard to fix or even bypass the relays all together (maybe that's why they call them bypass relays) but they are supposed to just work right?

Solutions: On mine I found the plastic around the relays to be a little warped so I cut away the plastic and pow! It now works every time without the nasty noise and drop in level. Since I have an engineering background it was easy for me to fix, but for others it may be more difficult.

If you have one of these or are planning to buy one and find the sound quality on one or both channels to be horrible, then find a skilled tech. All that needs to be done is to 'carefully' cut away the plastic around the relays. The problem is most notable when 'all' the effects are off and you switch the main bypass mode on and off. You can hear the relays click in the back and sometimes they fix themselves, but hopefully Behringer has learned from this and fixes it in later products or provides some sort of fix for current users.

The spectrum from around 40Hz to 16KHz seems rather true, but beyond, forget it. Yes, the digital processors do make some clicks and pops on occasion, and I even have power conditioners. I feel it is an internal design issue. I personally went back to Linear Analog EQ to avoid all that A/D D/A converstion and keep the signal as pure as possible. Yes, it is a very nice / pretty looking device with all the light show in the RTA mode, but if you want a TOOL, then you may consider something like AudioControl, Rane, Audio Precision, Linear X, for RTA's that have calibrated Mic's and have a prooven performance track record in the industry. Yes, they will cost considerablly more, but, you get what you pay for. There is no "Free Lunch" in a nut shell. For a beginner on a budget, not too concerned about LAB Grade results, it will suffice. For a Serious Sound Engineer, I would reconsider alternative brands.

Overall, I can't really condem Behringer, they do give you a value and tons of features. The thing is that, almost every company uses the word "Professional", and I feel that until you have spent the money to have it in hand to evaluate, the word itself dose not hold a lot of weight alone aside from a marketing phrase.

I hope my views and experiences will aid future buyers from being more informed with their future purchase(s).
