I've been gigging for 12 years and have owned and actually used the Shark since May 2001. Yep, it's almost 8 years old and yes, it is always hot when in use and yet it still works. It is great for live applications with vocalists but with some limitations.
First make sure the delay isn't active. The delay fills a specific need not usually required in small venues. And my first shark was set at what felt like about 5 seconds out of the box.
Anyway to the main focus, the feedback suppression: I usually set them up before a gig and I'm done. I only had a problem once. I had left the suppression with 8 set and 8 in search mode. Later, the MC grabbed one of my mics and walked all over the stage and couldn't decide if he wanted to eat the mic or put it in his shirt. When he got finished with it the Shark had stopped the feedback but muddied the sound pretty bad. I reset the suppression and the rest of the gig was great.
The gate and compressor are great for church venues; when things are quiet so are your mics.
Oh and all the blinking lights look cool to the uninformed.

So, for those of you (Justin) that think you know what you are doing and how to record....
First off, if you really know what you are doing and are an "expert" you would not be using a Behringer product.
Behringer is very low quality and I have yet to hear a product of theirs that does not color the sound adversely.
AFTER EXTENSIVE TESTING...

First, I want to address those here who make claims like "the feedback destroyer doesn't work" or "it feels low quality".
If you don't know the basics of recording then don't write a review; your lack of knowledge is not the product's fault! TIP: If you can see the front of your monitors when you're at the mic or if you're in your parents garage you're almost guaranteed feedback. LEARN HOW TO RECORD. Also, don't give a product low marks for "feeling" like anything. It's low quality if it breaks or has problems with the LEDs not because you think it might.
Ok; for those of you who know what you're doing and need a feedback destroyer... this works great! So does lowering the highs on your EQ but this is better for your sound. This is NOT studio equipment but works well in a studio. It also has a great noise filter that is surprisingly good.
The compressor works well but is unconventional and difficult to get used to if you use a proper compressor. Ultimately it does work well.
The many features can be used simultaneously and work well. It's also a clean pre-amp and additional phantom power. Just like most music gear it does not have an on/off button. It's not a lamp - put it on a power strip with an on/off switch. I have my mixer, pro tools interface, the DSP 110 and etc on a power strip. One button turns off the power.
A lot of great features for a great price!
All in all it's a great unit; read the manual and take the time to learn it. Never face your speakers when using a mic!
Great for delay line

This unit is excellent for delaying speakers. I dont use it for the other features (comp. feedback destroyer, gate, etc) I use it exclusively for delaying speakers for over a large distances, it supports upto 2.5 secs delay which you can set in metres or feet also if you want. It is the only delay unit available at this price range. So if you need delaying speakers at a cheap price, go for this product.

I bought a used shark to use for monitor feedback about three years ago. It worked very well for that, so I bought a nother new one. I didn't get the instructions with the used one, so when I got them with the new one I was able to utilize it even better. I am working with a band now that runs there own monators frome stage and they like them loud. They just hired a girl singer with a wireless mic and I was getting feedback from it, so I pulled my shark out of my monator rack before my next show and placed it bettwen the mic and the spliter box, just like magic the feedback and overtones were gone. Read the instrutions I set the senceitivity at 100 it filled 11 filters rightaway. I love this thing it's great, and very versital in manay situations. I would recimand that every musican or sound tec have at lesed one in there arsenal. What a geat piece of equmpement at a great value.
