First, the basics: this is a great sounding microphone for the iPod, and uses stereo mics (though the iPod doesn't record in stereo). The sound is good, as you would expect from Blue, and you can make basic monaural recordings of good quality. Of note is that the mic is certified to work with the Nano and the Classic, and part of this is the mic's design. The Nano and the Classic have earbud inputs on the opposite end from where the mic inserts into the iPod's port. This is significant if you want to use it with the Touch. have also used it with the iPod Touch, and the mic will function correctly with various recording apps. However, the mic blocks the earbud input on the Touch--so you cannot listen through headphones at all. This means that after recording, you have to remove the mic in order to listen through earbuds. So: if you are trying to do multitrack recording on the Touch, you cannot monitor playback tracks while recording new ones. This makes it unfit for multitrack on the Touch, though it performs well as advertised. The Mikey has a speaker built in, but you should not expect it to be useful.

Good tool for any songwriter, journalist and the like. Great sound (as you would expect from any Blue product). The 3 gain settings are nice and work well to balance out and save clips. Response time is slightly lagged, but nothing out of the ordinary. For an add on, it's well worth the money. Only issue I'm having is that it seems to be a battery hog (less than 1 hr recording time); it may just by my iPod. I've used it with Gen 5. I would recommend if the battery issue is isolated.

This microphone looks beautiful, and sounds good--WHEN you get an uninterrupted connection to your iPod. Package claims compatibility with current Nano and Classic. (The unofficial story is that it is also compatible with the current Touch and iPhone. I can't speak to the iPhone, but it is NOT physically compatible with the 2G Touch. It seldom makes a connection, and when it does, if you so much as shift the weight of the iPod and Mikey, the connection is broken. This was tried with several iPod Touches, and THREE brand-new Mikeys.) It does make a connection with the Nano and Classic, but it never 'clicks' in firmly--not really the kind of connection you'd hope for in a field recorder. With the Nano and the Classic, when you change the angle of the microphone (using its built-in swivel), the connection thru the dock connector is momentarily broken (not by design). I suspect that's not healthy for either the connector on the iPod, or the Mikey, or both. I wish Blue would have taken the effort and money they put into their packaging, and invested it in the mechanical design of this product.
