Amazing Mic AT ANY PRICE!!!

I'm very impressed with this mic, to say the least. I always hear things like 'its a great mic, at that price point' or ' for the money its a steal'. Whereas both of these statements apply to the CAD m9, it is also just a good mic period, end of story, regardless of the price. I like this better than my other mic, which cost about 4 times the price. I've heard mic tests in which this one can really hang with the big names.

As far as sound is concerned; the lows are tight and clean, the mids are open yet not overly so, and the highs give a real feel of space to the source, without sounding harsh. It is a very real sounding mic, yet it seems to flatter in just the right way without being obvious. Did I mention that you can easily change out the tube, not while it's plugged in, but when its out of its shockmount. This adds the ability to get a really high end tube, which will enhance the already beautiful sound of this mic.

I've owned this mic for about 2 years now and have been fairly satisfied with it's overall performance, with one notible complaint. The tube pre-amp is not very well shielded and occasionally picks up radio transmissions which obivously makes it unusable for recording. I guess that would depend on the location and the radio frequencies in your area, but certainly worth mentioning.

I recently bought this mic from Musicians Friend based on comments on Recording Forums and Reviews. They were all correct. For the money, the M9 is fantastic buy. My specific mic has some minor finish flaws and I have read that the mic should definitely used upside down to keep the tube heat away from the body of the mic especially in extended single term use or the heat could melt epoxys holding things together.

Deceptively good mic

This mic has been in my arsenal for a year. I picked it because the price was right and the reviews were very solid. My first impression with an acoustic guitar that there is no question about its significant, big sound on the bottom and its pristine articulation of the top end. Impressive. After many months I began to give the M9 some serious time as vocal mic - and discovered that it is highly favorable (using a Grace pre amp). So much so that it has earned its way to the "go to" vocal mic category - which is very much to my surprise (the competition is stiff) But there you have it. For the money - a steal! Super clean, quiet, engaging tube richness, immediacy and texture. Acoustic string instruments and vocals shine. Extremely rugged, excellent sonics and some additional features (i.e. pads) make the CAD M9 a qualified winner especially given the pricepoint.
