Cheap but HUGE results

So my group and I set up our studio and I finally got to throw these drum mics on the kit! Side note, I use the "Open Mic" theory! I'm Running the 2 over heads, bass drum, and snare! The sound is huge and exactly what I was hoping for! The only problem i have is that the snare and tom mics (even if I don't use them are attached to their holder. The clips do feel a touch on the cheap side but if your easy with them and tighten them slowly you won't have any problems!

I received this Pro-7 piece drum mic pack by CAD in the mail. I haven't used it yet. It comes with one snare mic, one kick mic, two condenser mics, and three dynamic tom mics which look great. I'm going to be using these mics on my Tascam. But there is one thing that I wasn't very enthusiastic about. The set doesn't come with 7 mic cables, and 2 mic stands. I guess I should of seen that coming. Anyways, I believe that these mics will record with great quality once I get my hands on the cables and stands.

I've had solid results with these mics. I use Cubase SE and an M-audio Delta 1010. I use recorderman's technique where one overhead is over the shoulder but the exact same distance from the snare and bass as the other overhead.

I can't tell the difference between my SM57 and the snare mic that comes with this package on the snare, and I actually prefer the bass drum mic with this kit over the SM57 I was using on my bass drum before.

The tom mics are solid and I actually like to close mic the toms, even though the overheads pic up a lot of the toms. The close mic-ing reduces the distant sound the toms get through the overheads.

The mounting clips have worked superbly for me. I've read complaints about their quality, but I don't move these much, they are for my home studio.

For my amateur home studio, with basic preamps and hardware, this is really all I needed. I am happy.

These mics are great for recording drums, and anything else you can think of. The only problem, is that the condensers require phantom power. Kinda confusing

I played around in my basement with these without any issue for awhile and used them for the first time in a performace setting this weekend at a backyard party/performance. I only have 8 Mic inputs on my powered mixer so I opted to use only the Kick mic and one of the condenser overheads for drums and the presense of drums was more than adequate. Left the EQ on each input and the main flat and it sounded fine. Obviously I'm not a sound engineer and I'm sure that someone more experienced who has worked with much higher end mics would find issues with these CAD units but I'm pretty sure that this kit would be satisfactory for all but the most descriminating users. Seems like a no brainer for someone's first set of drum mics. The 4 piece variation of this would probably have adequate for my purposes.
