The CAD e300 is an outstanding value. Multi-pattern, transformerless output and very low noise are difficult to find in a mic at this price. The sound? Let me say that I've owned Neumann 87, 67 and AKG 414 so, I know a great sounding mic when I hear one. Is the e300 the equal of the 87 or 67? - no, not exactly. The sonic character is closer to the 414 and NOTHING will sound like a 67 other than a 67!! I would say that for he price you can't beat it. I've had 3 CAD models and they all perform 100%. Great deal. Buy one before the price goes up!

This is an amazingly versatile microphone, with a very clean sound. I use it for voiceover work, but have recorded every instrument in the book with it as well with great results. I did have an issue with the first e300 that I bought...after a few days it developed a severe hum that came and went with tension on the mic connector. I narrowed it down to the mic and contacted CAD. They were AMAZING...gave me a return authorization number without question, and I had my replacement mic with a 4 day turnaround (from my UPS store and back). I can't say enough about CAD's customer service, it's just the best (though CALL them, I didn't get any response through email).

Itīs heavy because of the internal rechargeable batteries. But those batteries are needed for the op amp in the mic, the phantom power might not deliver enough current power to drive the mic. I like the sound of the e300ē and the build quality is also good (no problems yet)

Not a lot of reviews on this actual CAD e300 Equitek that I've seen, so hopefully this one will help you decide. In summary: Go for it! I feel very good about this purchase, and have had the mic since December of '06. I do voice-over production from home, and this gives me the sound I need to get the job done. Nice range. It's a solid step up, a few steps up, from my MXL 909 (which did the job, but was a starter mic to be sure). This mic give a nice, warm sound with a great range, and many attenuation options...maybe a little overkill on the options. The power thing is odd, but just leave it plugged in to your system and you won't ever think about it. It is a bit heavy, and the whole setup is unique, no doubt. That's part of what makes it special. It's definitely "its own mic" and has its own sonic-identity. But it's a good one. Don't know if I'd pay anywhere near list for it. Fortunately, none of us have to. Pro: It's very heavy, and that tells me that it's put together solid. Great sound. Con: It's very heavy, and has a funky setup with the angle that the mic rests...make sure your stand is up to the task. For this kind of list price, I should have gotten a killer case with gold-leaf around the edges...not really into the bulky, molded, plastic deal for a mic that lists at $700! That's a bit chincy. Not a big deal to me in the bigger picture. Whatever you think or thought of CAD will take on new meaning with the e300 Equitek!

I have never used this particular mic from CAD, but I did own the E-350 for a while. The mic was sent back to CAD twice with major problems. I kept getting a really bad distortion with only the slightest sound input. Turns out the diaphragm came loose somehow. It was fixed. Broke again. Fixed. Broke AGAIN. I finally sold it for $100 as is. It sounded wonderful when it worked. I really am suspicious of CAD's quality control.
