I used the cm700 on snare at a show I had to mix and it was impressive. It gave the snare drum a deep tone with teh added benefit of not being too harsh or bright. The snare was not a picallo, about 8 inches deep. Not much EQ was needed for the sound I was looking for. Great mike!! Will get a few, as they are great for overheads as well. It was a live reggae show.

I've used the CM-700MPs for about 4 years. They are fairly rugged, very small, but with a nice solid feel. I've used them on vocals, symphony orchestra and organ. Excellent lows for a cardioid, the upper midrange and highs are a bit bright and harsh. The CM-700s lack the extreme top-end "air" that more expensive condenser mics have. However, this mic really shines, I think, on vocals but has too much coloration for wide band music such as a symphony orchestra (Shure SM-81s are a better choice for orchestra, at about the same street price...)

Use of really good shock-mounts are a must, this mic is VERY sensitive to handling noise.

The major strengths: Small size, good uniform polars, rugged construction (but satin finish black paint scratches easily), great on vocals and bass. American made, moderately priced.

The major weekness: Considerable coloration on wide-band music, signs of cheap and sloppy workmanship (loose decals, fit and finish not the best...) and sensitive to handling. Low sensitivity.

I play at IHOP (International House Of Prayer) in a drum booth and use these mics for hi hats and cymbals, they work great! Very crisp, high quality for the price. They also sound great on recording.
