XTI-4000 - Own Your Own Repair Shop

I own 3 of these. Currently 2 of them are in the shop. One goes into clipping with a 2 Ohm load when driven close to capacity, although it worked fine with 2 ohms previously. The other went out COMPLETELY. I DJ'd for a wedding on Friday night and it worked perfectly, as usual. I DJ'd for another wedding the next night on Saturday, and it was completely DEAD!... no lights, no nothing. The fuse is apparently located inside the amp and is unaccessable to users... good idea, huh? It failed completely. I trusted Crown's reliability history without first reading all the comments (complaints) about its apparent unreliability since Harmon Kardon bought Crown. This was the first time in 7 years that a power amp failed right before a performance... or at all, for that fact. I used QSC 3402's before, 4 of them, and NEVER had trouble. I switched to Crown to save weight and keep the same power rating... but now regret doing so. I didn't have a back-up power amp with me and the wedding was out-of-town. I had to scrounge one from a local night club owner to start the music for the wedding... one hour late. I had a second wedding booked with the same client... she cancelled the second one due to my failure... and Crown's. So, in summary, if you want to run your own repair shop, buy one of these new XTI's... you'll be sending it in for repairs and feel like a true repairman instead of a performer! If you don't believe me, buy two, not one... because you will need to carry a spare AT ALL TIMES!

Great amp

Used this amp for my band. I replaced a couple older style Crowns with it. I wanted something to push my mains and my subs together (for small and medium venues). I was a little leary of using the built in bridge, but it works perfectly. I emailed Crown and one of their techs emailed me with instructions on how I should set everything up the way I want it.

So not only do you get a high quality amp, but Crown gives you great support when you need it.

good amp

Good product. I am impressed with the light weight. The fan has variable speed. At low volume you can not hear it. After listening to music at high volume over time, the fan does come on but quickly slows after the volume is reduced. The volume control knobs have notched points so you can count the clicks to make sure both channels are set at the same setting. It has typical red and green lights to for signals clip and fault states. It does not have ¼ inputs. It takes a few seconds to fully turn on and have power sent to speakers. The good thing about this is that there is no pop from the speakers when you turn the amp on. Some will find the DSP useful. If you figure in the cost for a crossover, equalizer, and time delay options are all built in, you may be able to justify a few hundred dollars more for this amp rather than another product. I just needed a power amp and could have done without this feature, but I wanted this one because of the crown reputation, specs and power output. The DSP can be tricky to setup. You start with one setting and have to click your way forward using the select button to finish. The two other buttons toggle you through the options. I use it to power an eminence Kilomax 18 inch sub. I instantly noticed a sound improvement when I swapped to this amp. The bass is tighter with more controlled cone movement. I had been using another well known brand that I have had for 9 years without any fault. Hopefully this amp will last as long.

Sweet, clean and powerful. The digital process is tricky. Love the look size and weight of the amp. The price is better than Crest or QSC for this level amp. Love the feature of the compressor which protect the speaker. Highly recommend this amp.

These amps are one of the best amps you can buy. I replaced some micro-tech with these and you can't tell the difference in sound quality. With all the features built, you have no reason to buy any process equipment.
