I purchased a MBOX Pro a few months ago. I am now running Pro Tools 8 and it works great! It comes with some key ingredients such as Midi, SPiDf, 4 audio inputs, 2 Mic Pre's, 2 headphone outputs, and 48V Phantom Power. I bought the unit for recording while traveling in my RV. It functions perfectly on with my Macbook. And, it sounds really good! It is easy to use and small enough to fit in my notebook backpack. The structure is pretty solid so it should last a long time. If, you looking to go mobile this is a great way to go!

Not what I expected

I am a hobbyist musician and composer for many years and I am currently studying at a sound engineer school. So I thought I should purchase Pro-Tools to keep up with the courses, to learn better what the "Pros" use, and in a package that would be enough for my project studio even after some time. So I purchased M-Box 2 Pro.
I knew that Pro-Tools was not the easiest DAW to use, and with a clumsy interface, I knew that it has STUPID limitations for the year 2007 (e.g. in the number of tracks you can open, no automatic delay compensation e.t.c). Problems that nowadays don't exist even in shareware DAWs...
BUT I was prepared to work hard around it, if it was to get a better sound. A better sound which never came!
The "Box" sounds really thin for my taste. OK, it is fairly transparent, but I don't own several thousands euros of outboard gear to take this as an advantage. I could track better sounding electric guitar and vocals through my older set-up, an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 card and a small Behringer mixer!
There are also some other issues:
-I have a good PC with an AMD processor, something that M-Box is not really happy to work with. For example, if I open another DAW and then Pro-Tools, I get no sound and I have to restart. You MUST have INTEL processor inside your computer.
-Installing Pro-Tools? Gods... I fear the time I may have to change my computer and re-instal it! Come on guys: the "Box" is in fact also a dongle. What's all that fuzz about? Give us a break.
-Export to mp3? Yes... But you have to pay extra! Need slightly more audio tracks? (you don't get too many anyway!) Pay again. Need more than just one soft synth? (how dare you...) Pay again.
I could have say some good things about M-Box though. For example, when you mixdown to stereo several audio tracks, you get a really good quality and detailed sound. Pristine. BUT... then I did excactly the same thing with Cockos' REAPER, a SHAREWARE DAW, and it sounded just as detailed, with.... some more punchy (not muddy) lows!!!
Just tell us Digidesign: what are we paying for? You brand name? Or maybe just compartibility with bigger HD studios...
To be honest, the whole package is not any crap by any means. But I was expecting so much more. In terms of quantity AND quality. I think that I will sell it just to buy an M-Audio interface again (propably the ProFire 2626), for the same amount of money, and use it with any DAW I like.

The combination of ProTools and XPand! are worth the price alone. Everyone makes a big fuss over Reason, but I prefer XPand! It's FAR more intuitive and the sounds are just as good and better than Reason... Both programs come with the system, so you decide. The bundle also includes Analog Factory which has hundreds of great retro sounds and a cool interface. You also get a free download of ProTools 7.4, which has a plug in called Elastic Time that is just AMAZING!
I'm currently using this system to produce techno music for a commercial, as well as producing a metal band, a rap duo and a soundtrack for a haunted house. All the tools, samples and quality I require are in this one system. My standards are VERY high and I'm quite a perfectionist - If I had paid double for this system, it'd still be well worth the money.

I've had the Mbox 2 Pro for about 2 years now, and I've been really pleased with it. Pro Tools LE is not the easiest program, but once you get the hang of it, it's very powerful.
The issue I have is that there are not many inputs. Also, Pro Tools is not compatible with any inexpensive interfaces with more inputs. If you're planning on recording your whole band at once and you don't want to drop thousands on it, you may have better luck with an M-powered product with more inputs, or a Cubase-oriented interface from Presonus or MOTU.

If you want THE FACTS about the MBox 2 Pro Factory Bundle, read this review:
- Despite what other reviews say Digidesign DOES provide 90 days of complimentary tech support with this product. You have to register the MBox and Pro Tools software online first!
- Installation of the Ignition Pack is VERY time consuming. Talk to Digidesign Tech Support about the "Installation Tutorial Videos", they're an absolute MUST unless want high blood pressure!
- Don't waste your time with iLok tech support. They're simply unwilling and incompetent. If you have iLok issues, call Digidesign.
I've used virtually every other medium for professional and recording. The bottom line is, Pro Tools is THE standard used by nearly every real studio. As with any pro recording system, you'll need to use a good set of powered monitors, and a good deal of skill, for proper mixing. Once you learn the MBox 2 Pro interface, you'll be well on your way to cutting pro-quality recordings. I had been using the same Pro Tools system since 2001. It still works fine, but I bought the MBox 2 Pro as an update/upgrade for my studio. If you're a beginner, this system will grow with you and you'll be very impressed with the Ignition Pack. If you're a pro, you're likely using Pro Tools already and the MBox 2 Pro Factory Bundle is a no-brainer.
