Excellent For Home Recording

I've been using the Mbox for nearly 3 years now and I can honestly say that it's been an incredibly reliable unit. I've done loads of recording with my single processor G4 tower and I've been able to take my tracks and transfer them to the full version in a pro studio. The only downside to the Mbox is that you are limited to 32 tracks and the plug-ins are dreadful. For those reasons I'm switching to logic Express which pretty much kill the Mbox. All in all, if you want to learn pro-tools and record at home with ease and quality then go for it. I can't imagine any mac user having any real problems with this program.

The MBox has been the bain of my exsistance, and even though I know this review won't matter since there's a new one out, I still have to let it out. I've had the MBox for MONTHS, and I still haven't found why I had to pay so much for it. First it had trouble with my computer, so I switched. Now I can't get my Kaoss Pad to work with it!!! I know Pro Tools is the best because I've seen it in action, but I haven't even gotten to use it and it's been on my computer for a LONG time. Buying the MBox is one of my greatest regrets in anything I've ever bought.

I was hesitant to buy an Mbox after I read mixed reviews and saw the manufacturer's info on all the known hardware/chipset issues that this product has with various computers. I borrowed an Mbox from a friend and I'm glad that I did because the results were frustrating. I'm a software engineer and I've never had so much trouble getting a USB device to work properly. The IBM laptop I own is one of the recommended computers that digidesign recommends for use with the mbox, but I couldn't even get it to work with that. I got it to work fairly well (after an hour of setup) with my desktop, but now that I turned it off, the computer no longer recognizes it when I turn it back on and I have to reinstall EVERYTHING for it to work. There must be a simpler way to record audio into a computer!!

When it was working it seemed to be a good product, but the maintenance is a let-down and I won't be buying one for myself. I hate to use a USB mic, but I'll have to make do and let Audition clean up the audio in post-processing.

I picked up the Mbox to start doing some basic recording on my powerMac G5. I was quickly disappointed that I could not get the hardware to work well with Garageband due to large latency. I started to fiddle around in ProTools (included software) and got great results after putting in several hours learning the software. The total package of software+ the hardware+ 2 free mics (from musiciansfriend) is outstanding value and performance.

This is a great product! I have used it on several projects and I am very pleased with the outcome. Of course it will not give you the quality of a million dollar studio but if you want a professional sound with decent quality you should get it. It is great for Tracking But just okay for mixing. And to any artist out there if you need music give me a holla!!
