My guitarist went to pick up a 3-pack of Shure PG58's and got these instead. I've been a Shure SM58 user for years and was a bit leery about these. To my surprise, the sound of these and output were better then any of the budget mics I've ever been stuck using. We have 3 of these, and the balance out nicely, and the sound is similar to my SM58. The only down side is that 2 of the 3 mic clips were way too loose and we couldn't adjust them, thus the mics go limp on their stands. The clips are Audio Technica, so it surprises me they're so poor quality.

All-in-all, these are the best mic I've used for under $100.

I've used this microphone for over a year now, and I have no complaints about it. I own two of them, and I use them at both live gigs and in the studio. It's actually surprising how well this microphone sounds through a mixer. My band recently played a show with Dead to Fall, and we had to warn the sound engineer at the venue that our drummer had two kick drums. He didn't have an extra microphone, so we used both of the DR-VX1 mics on our drummer's kick drums. Needless to say, the guy was very skeptical of what these mics could do. After the show, he came up to us and told us how impressed he was by the sound of them. He gave us a recording of our live show that night, and I could not believe how amazing the double bass sounded. Absolutely perfect in every way.

Overall, this mic is really good for the price. It picks up a great deal of sound, and can withstand alot of abuse. If you're looking for something with all around ability and quality, this is the mic for you.

I own one of these and let me tell you, it is one of the best mics around for the price. I put this thing over my drumset when I am recording practice tracks and it picks up everything! The toms are crisp, the cymbals are bright/airy, and the kick is deep. Exactly what I need for practice tracks. Start out with one, find it's niche in your needs, then use it as it was intended! My band went in to a local store to pick up some Shure 58's for our practice space. Much to our dismay the store did not have the 3 pack that was on sale. After cranking the DV's up for a test run in the sound room we were amazed at the quality of sound. Very good at covering up the plosives and a very high gain before feedback. If you handle the mic screen while singing it will feedback on you. But if left on the stand, it kept pace with the Shures. For way less than a 1/3 of the price of the Shures. We ended up buying 3 and are very pleased.

I really appreciate this mic. I was in the market to purchase a large set of mics for a jazz choir at my school. These microphones fit well in my budget, and were in stock at a local GC. I purchased one to try it out. I put the mic on a stage in an empty performance hall along with an SM58. For testing purposes, I used the same cords, snake, stand, etc. I EQ'd them flat and leveled the gains using a Mackie VLZ-Pro board. When I checked the mics, I was actually fairly surprised. Everyone knows the Sure sound, so no surprises there. The VX1 delivered a fairly flat response for a low-end dynamic. There was a spike in the highs, but it did not seem like there was as much boost in the mids as in the Sure mic. I found the response to be slightly more detailed and nuanced than with the SM58. A fellow sound engineer told me after playing with this mic that he found this mic to be better-sounding than the Behringer XM8500. After accidentally dropping the VX1 on a cement and tile floor from about 4.5 feet, it did not lose any performance. The problem comes when you try to pick up the mic. Very noisy! You need to firmly grip the mic to avoid any unwanted handling noise. In the end, I picked up a dozen more of these for my choir, and have so far (two rehearsals and one concert later...) been very happy with them. I would recommend this mic to anyone who doesn't mind putting a little more effort into holding the mic in exchange for the low price.
