Direct Sound Extreme Isolation Headphones are used by Terry Bozzio, Shawn Drover of Megadeth, and they're Blue Man group approved. The EX-29 headphones let drummers hear both mix and acoustic drums clearly at ear-saving levels. Now drummers can record "live" drums right next to their mixers; Front-Of-House engineers can monitor comfortably during live performances; studio musicians can finally hear the cue mix over loud instruments; engineers can use them for mic placement, and DJ's can isolate one ear and hear both CD and loudspeakers clearly for beat mixing.

What makes EX-29 headphones so extreme? Specially designed earmuffs passively attenuate surrounding sound by a comfortable average of 28 decibels throughout the sound spectrum. With custom-fitted speaker assembly, the speakers are designed to protect your eardrums from damage and improve your recording and performance experience.

A frequency range of 20Hz-20kHz and advanced an-isotropic magnet drivers offer superior fidelity and sensitivity. Extreme headphones fold for easy storage. Convenient dual cords are worn behind the head, which prevents them from interfering with your hands or instruments.

Not just for drummers, Direct Extreme Isolation Headphones are great for project studios, stage and studio musicians, sound engineers or for solitude at home.

a high-quality product

I've used these daily for 5 years now. The drivers are highly efficient, and produce a lot of sound at modest power levels. Sound quality is impeccable. I use them at home for cutting out ambient noise, and take them with me in the car, on trains and airplanes. On trains and planes, I sometimes wear them just for peace and ear protection, without playing music. They're solidly built and durable. Every 2-3 years when the ear pads begin to wear, I send them back to Direct Sound for refurbishment. Wish list: (1) After several hours on an airplane, they begin to feel too tight around my ears. (2) They work best for blocking out the middle and high frequency noise. Meanwhile, electronic noise cancellation technology works well with the low frequencies. This is a great opportunity: Noise cancellation should be incorporated in Direct Sound's next product.

I originally bought these for my drummer to wear while tracking drums for an album we recorded at home. They are perfect for that and so much more. I now own three pairs and use them for everything from drum tracking to mowing the lawn, and even for casual listening. The sound quality is surprisingly good and the isolation is insane. BUY THESE.

I've own a pair for about a year...while it such a useful tool for recording, rehersal, live backing tracks, etc. COMPLAINTS: 1.GENERALLY FLIMBSY 2.Sound quality not great 3. Cord is too short, thin and jack is cheap 4. THEY ARE BUTT UGLY!! I haven't tried many others, being that they are more expensive than most..figured anything cheaper will be worse. Hopefully there is something better out there....but in the meantime...i'll keep using. In ear monitors just aren't good unless you get the custom ones...but who want to spend a grand on earbuds. Onward!

Full Studio - have 5 sets

I have 5 pairs of the EX-29s. Im a producer/engineer in Dallas and these are probably some of the most useful pieces of equipment I have. They are valuable for recording because they allow me to put a clean monitor mix with click into the drummer and he can hear it. Its rediculous to say they dont block the noise. They do. They are also good for vox because they effective kill the hphone bleed that can get into a Large Diaph. condenser.

I also use them extensively in rehearsals. I run complete 5 piece monitor mixes for bands and no one has to leave with their ears ringing.

I did have some problems with the headbands on a couple older pairs but was sent free replacements and all is good.
