About a year ago I build a modest computer for general use, but I wanted to do some recording as well. The on board sound card was terrible so last November I began looking for an upgrade. After looking at all the major names, and my bank account, I bought the 1212m. For the price I cannot say I've ever seen such a drastic improvement in performance. The buzzing and pops were gone. I no longer had under runs and songs that were previously pushing my dual core to 60% were now running at 2-5% and with no discernible latency from key press to sound. I would recommend the 1212m to anyone looking for a solid sound card.

This is about the best card on the market for the price. Works very well with Sonar, no latency issues whatsoever, 0 latency to be exact. The software included is awesome and great for someone who has never used these type of programs. It's not a gamer's card, it's a musician's card and some learning will be invlolved. No outgrowing this card unless you just need more tacks.

It is odd that the price range and the association with Creative put E-Mu's products in a "consumer/enthusiast" class, even though they use plenty of pro-grade components, such as the same A/D converters as the ProTools HD line. The 1212m boasts an impressive 120dB signal-to-noise ratio, which is unmatched by many interfaces even in the multi-hundred-dollar range. You get a lot for the money: switchable ADAT or S/PDIF optical ins/outs, coaxial S/PDIF, MIDI, switchable +4/-10dBV balanced TRS ins/outs, flexible mixer, expandability to SMPTE/Word Clock/MTC, good selection of bundled software, and now even Vista drivers.

Unless you don't know how to operate a PC, this card rocks. The sound is perfectly natural and pristine. I have a treated basement, playing through some largish nearfield monitors, and the output is also fantastic. Pure bliss through headphones as well. Minor drawback, the inputs, a direct recorder might want more than the two balanced inputs on this card. Recording quality is exacting. Great quality at a bargain price.
