The Echo Layla3G PCI Audio Interface is the perfect center for any computer-based studio. It has two universal inputs with mic preamps, six balanced analog inputs, eight balanced analog outputs, and a stereo headphone output. ADAT lightpipe, optical and coaxial S/PDIF, and MIDI are included as well. Layla3G comes with a 15' cable and PCI card that connects to the audio interface. Layla3G is compatible with PCI-X (3.3 or 5 volt) motherboards and Power Mac G5 computers, as well as older systems.

It gives you a software console for monitoring, metering, and setting levels as well as low-latency drivers for nearly all major pro audio software, surround sound support, and SuperChannel resource sharing.

Awesome Audio Interface. Configured it to work with my Linux (Ubuntu Studio Hardy). It took a little configuring but got to work nicely with Ardour DAW.

I got this soundcard because it said it was powermac G5 compatible. I tried to install it only to find out the pci card does not phisicaly fit, what a disappointment. And so much for their tech support,I've tried to get in touch with ECHO but they won't even answer my mail's, save your money.

This is most def a very functionl unit. The Mic pre are clean and the unit intergrates very well with DAWs such as reason and Sonar 3 Prod Ed. Just play arround the Buffer size for different application sceenarios.

I think the Mic Pre need a little more gain as you have to crank it up high to get a decent recording level into your DAW.

From a price range standpoint, I would also consider a MOTU 828mkII.
