Built in power, front-panel controls, and flexible I/O. |
Edirol MA-15D Digital Stereo Micro Monitors are ideal for computer-based recording artists seeking high-quality, powerful reference monitors to serve in a relatively confined space. With their wide frequency range and crystal-clear audio reproduction, Edirol MA-15Ds are perfect for such applications.
Edirol MA-15D monitors feature a built-in bass enhancer that operates on psychoacoustic principles. It converts low frequencies into a series of overtones that the human ear cannot distinguish from the original low frequencies.˙Thus the listener perceives bass frequencies below the normal range of the speaker cones. If you need even more low end, the MA-15D has a sub out jack.
For digital sources, Edirol MA-15Ds are equipped with a S/PDIF jack (optical and coaxial), and support up to 24-bit/192kHz sources. Thus, an unadulterated audio signal is delivered to the power amplifier so you hear exactly what you have recorded!
Volume and tone controls are conveniently located on the front panel. The MA-15D monitor allows direct connection of 2 sources, such as your computer and stereo. One volume knob controls the first source, the other affects the RCA and digital inputs.
You can also plug in headphones, which automatically defeats the speakers for silent mixing. Magnetic shielding allows to place the Edirol MA-15D speakers in close proximity to your computer monitor.

Amazing computer speakers

These speakers work as advertised. I've used a pair for a few years with good results. If you want loud speakers for a studio, don't get these. For a small bedroom studio via your computer, they rock!

I originally wanted to buy Yamaha HS-50 but my budget were little bit tight so I go for this pair of speakers. They are very good monitors. I've been recording my music for over 10 years and I believe I have good ears. These speakers deliver the details. When I listen Ella Fizgirald, I thought she sings inside of the speakers! They are definitely good buy!

connections/features sold me

I've been using these with my pc for 8 months at the time of this review. Some audio mixing is done on them but it's mostly just general pc audio (music, games, whatever). That being said, I think these are wonderful. I originally purchased them because they had all of the options/connections I needed. SPDIF connections (both rca and optical) straight from the pc. The sub output was also a requirement. I haven't used the analog inputs yet or turned on the bass boost(s) so I cannot write about those. Using a digital connection and subwoofer, the clarity & response is exceptional. Lively mids, crisp highs, but let the sub take care of the lows.. otherwise you might get the speaker "plop" when the bassdrum hits that others have written about here. My only other gripe is that the volume knobs are very sensitive to change. A slight turn will provide a big boost in volume. Like I said up top, these things fit my pc audio needs EXACTLY! I was definitely not disappointed.

Not Good For Mixing

I don't consider myself a pro by any means, but I've been recording my own music for about 13 years. I had a pair of Roland speakers along time ago that I used with my 4-Track and I figured I would give these Edirol's a try. They're good speakers if you were to use them as computer monitors, but for mixing, they are terrible. I will listen to something through these speakers, then through headphones and another stereo and it sounds nothing like it did through the Edirols. In addition, these speakers don't handle bass very well at all, particularly a kick drum whether it be miked or an electonic drums set/drum machine. To best summarize, there are EQ knobs on these speakers for a reason.

Don't Listen to Music Snobs

I AM a musician and have been for the past 15 years and I've used all kinds of home studio setups, my own and other musicians. Listen to me now and hear me later, these speakers sound just as good as speakers twice the price. To get the best sound you have to use the digital inputs, because I don't care how expensive speakers are, regular old analog inputs all give pretty much the same output. And, as music is essentially all digital now (CD's, MP3's, MP4, etc) you may as well hear it exactly how it's going to sound on those media. Bass mix can be a little heavy with Bass boost, but that is adjustable, and the type of music I play tends to be bass heavy to begin with. These babies sound well across various genres of music. My wife is not a musician and she wants a pair to listen to music on her laptop. Just a really great buy!
