It's ultra small and looks like a gadget, but make no mistake—the R-09 is a serious, top-quality professional recorder. Capture source material at a crystal-clean 24-bit resolution with your choice of 44.1 or 48kHz sample rates. You can record and play back in MP3 format as well (up to 320kbps). I.A.R.C. (Isolated Adaptive Recording Circuit)
I.A.R.C. is the newly developed dedicated analog circuit optimized for recording on R-09. Electrolytic capacitors provide stable, reliable power to the analog circuits, eliminating DC interference. The R-09 offers an input gain volume control to manually adjust recording levels.

Microphone Included
To record audio into the R-09, there's no extra gear to buy or no cables to connect. A quality stereo microphone is built right into the unit, complete with a dedicated input control, mono/stereo selector, low-cut filter, and gain boost. Just point and record! If you wish to use an external microphone, the R-09 offers a 1/8" mic input.

Sweetening
The R-09 is more affordable than its predecessor, the R-1. One reason the R-1 carries a heavier price tag is because of its well-stocked lineup of internal effects. The R-09 isn't devoid of effects, however. It contains the world's most-requested/desired effect: reverb. Whether you're listening to WAV or MP3 files, you can route the R-09's playback through its internal reverb processor, immersing it in lush, user-controllable ambience.

More Than Music

This little recorder works perfect. Great sound quality. My band and I just toss the thing in the middle of the room during a jam, and whala. Simple to use, and feels sturdy.

Love it, absolutely love it! This little box just couldn't get any easier to use. If you know how to run the controls on your tape deck, then you won't even need to open the book to make a simple recording. You can drag & drop files with the USB cable, or what I do is take the card out and plug it into the card reader on my PC. Drag and drop the files onto the desktop and edit away with your favorite audio editing software. Everything you need to know about your recording is right on the view screen. I use this weekly to record our church worship sets, and I have also used it to record music in larger churches (3500+ seats). Quality is great... just set the input level as high as you can before getting a peak light, and your final product will turn out very good.

Good overall unit. It will record what you want with very good quality sound. Sound tends to be a little bass heavy. This product lacks some basic software that would be very helpful when trying to use the unit with your computer. It is a little confusing and difficult to transfer files and burn them back to a CD. The manual is fine, but some basic software would be better. The unit has flimsy construction. The housing is plastic and the battery door looks especially vulnerable to breakage. You have to use the battery door a lot because the USB port is located there. The USB port should have been located on the side like your cell phone. This would have avoided a lot of wear and tear on the battery door because the battery life is actually pretty decent (about 4 hrs). The manual states that you MUST use an A/C power supply while hooked up to your computer because if you accidently lose power, you may lose you data. For the price, there ahould have been a power supply included and a basic protective case as well. This unit is overpriced and flimsy, but does works well. Treat it gently!

I purchased on of these little babies to record local shows for bands and large acts when I can. The only complaint that I have is the materials used to make the R-09. If this was made out of a thicker plastic or aluminum and stayed at this price point it, it would be the ultimate recorder. I have a camera ata like case for it that is small enough to fit in my pocket. I would also use a 90 degree connector on the 1/8th in jacks so the top jacks don't get damaged. The interface is really easy to use and intuitive. I had no trouble at all figuring out how to make a recording or editing the settings.

I have recorded an entire festival this year with a PG81 mic and the results were pretty good. I did record in mono with AGC off. Transferring files from the edirol to my mac was really easy and fast. Just drag and drop.

The internal mics are not too bad either. I wouldn't use them for critical recording. They do however get the job done. The I/O features are pretty good. You can patch out to another taper if you want which is really handy. There is plenty of gain, and the unit is pretty quite. If you try to boost your signal too much it will hiss just like anything elese. It does not have fantom power if you need it. My PG 81 mic was great because it only needed a AA battery for phantom power. This little setup will be geting alot of use in the future. I use a 4GB SD card (purchased seperatly) and I get about 6 hours of music at 44.1khz 24bit. That is plenty because the batteries die at 4 hours.

Having the batteries removeable is a great feature that you need in the field. Try that with some of the other brands. If Roland made it out of alluminum this would be the best recorder on earth bar none.

I have one of these and also a Zoom H4. The Edirol has a far better interface as well as a larger display. The Zoom has better microphones and XLR inputs with phantom power. However the Zoom is double the size. If you want something that is easy to use and small the Edirol is the way to go.
