The Edirol UA-25 USB Bus Powered Stereo Audio Interface is easy to set up. It's a powerful USB Audio/MIDI interface designed to offer premium sound quality, rugged durability, and complete portability to the computer-based audio engineer. Compact enough to travel anywhere you can take your computer. High-grade aluminum chassis withstands hard knocks in the field and shields against high-frequency interference.

USB powered but provides 48V phantom power for condenser mics. Outputs audio at +4dBu from the balanced 1/4" outputs. Realtime direct monitoring. You can turn direct monitoring on or off, adjust the relative volume of the input signal compared to the audio playing out from your computer, and even set the signal to monitor in mono. This lets you plug a mic into the left input and hear it in both headphones or hear any phasing issues between inputs.

Built-in mild analog compressor protects against clipping and gives a little more latitude in field recording situations. 24-bit/96kHz audio performance, MIDI I/O, S/PDIF optical I/O, and Neutrik XLR/TRS inputs with high-grade microphone preamps. Super-stable drivers. ASIO2.0, WDM, MME, and CoreAudio support for both Mac & PC.

Reroute outgoing audio signals back to the input without crossing into the analog domain so you can record streaming audio directly.

Good Audio Interface

This is pretty nice audio interface. It does what it supposed to do. I use this gear to record my guitar/midi/vocal/piano. It has a limiter so it controls the overall volume pretty well but I found that overall volume is pretty low. I use it with my laptop and my latency is Input: 17ms Output 24ms. This gear has a good feature which is direct monitoring when you have zero latency. But when I am using a VSTi feature in Cubase, I have 24ms latency which makes me crazy when I am recording my guitar or piano. I am thinking to swtich my audio interface to usb2 audio interface.. since this guy is usb1 latency issue is a problem.

In case you get the high-pitched sound

In terms of features/sound quality, I have nothing bad to say about it. Everything works very well.

However, in case you're getting that high pitched whine on yours - try the shortest USB cable you can find. it helps - a lot!

Still, I can't say I'm at least mildly annoyed at this... However it also appears to be a hit and miss thing - not everyone seems to experience it. so maybe its just a certain batch?

This little piece of equipment is pretty good. The pre's aren't too shabby but the sensors crackle, A LOT, when you put it too high. Don't even use the software, it sucks. Get something good like Ableton Live. The balanced XLR inputs are AWESOME. The sound comes in extremely clean every time. Overalll decent for the price. I would recommend it to intermediate recorders.

I'm finally glad I went to computer recording.

I had some initial problems with the settings on my computer, but I am 53, so... within two days I had it figured out and I couldn't be happier. I use Cakewalk Pro 3 and my old Martin can finally be heard on CD. I don't have the backround to give specifics, but if you mike your guitar and want to record on your computer, the Edirol UA 25 will send it clear and clean. Some people say I'm 'frugal', well I'm glad I spent the money for this.
