This particular device is a workhorse. I, unlike some of the peer-reviews, have never had an issue this model.

It has been running constantly (about 80% or more) since 2006, when I received it in a bundle package with my DIGI002. Today, it is still running smoothly and quietly. Besides, I the average life of an external HD is about 300k hours.

These Fantom Drives are great for a while, but be careful not to work them too hard. I left mine running overnight for about three days in a row. When I woke up the fourth day, I found that my Fantom had died (though the power was still on, the computer no longer detected it). I then tossed it into a box and there it sat for two months. Later on, I proceeded to void my warranty and see if I had really lost all of my data. I figured I was going to throw it away anyway, why not try EVERYTHING? I then hooked the hard drive directly up to my computer via IDE...and, like magic, there were all of my files. I've told you all of that to tell you this. These things have decent hard drives in them, but as it turns out...the bridge-boards that they use are cheap and faulty at best. So heed this warning: If your Hard Drive has died...DO NOT a) toss it aside, or b) Pay to "recover your data". Try EVERYTHING else- that's free- first and when all else fails...crack it open. If the same thing happens to you and you find your files...just go get a twenty or thirty dollar enclosure to put your "precious" into and continue on with your penny-pinching life. LOL. I hope this helps someone else like it helped me.

I received one of these things free with our new firepod FP10. Something told me not to rely on it for holding precious audio. To make a long story short, it ended up crapping out on us which made us loose the audio from the hard drive. Thankfully fantom drives has crappy customer service. I had to take it to a local PC store to retrieve the information from it costing me $125. Mostly, i would say that this product is a waste of money. Buy something that comes with a warranty, or at least a good warranty.

This external hard drive is outstanding. I got it as a free gift with protools. At first I was confused about it because it would not store my music but when I formatted it I can now have all my music on it. On this device I have all 7000 songs of my i-tunes library, 100 TV shows and 10 movies. I still have 40 GB left to use. The only reason I don’t give it a 10 for features is it could use more space maybe 200 GB

I got this item. Installation was a breeze, just plug it into my PCI firewire card, plug in the power supply and turn it on. Windows XP recognized it instantly and I have already started using it for storing all of my Cubase projects and song files. If you are looking for a great, quiet external hard drive you can't beat it for the price.
