A Nice NOT Tube Pre

In an age when people seem to be obsessing about tube based pre amplifiers, this is a nice, solid, completly solid state pre amplifier.

Now don't get me wrong, I love and use any number of tube based pres, but it is nice to have some good non-tube based ones as well, and the Focusrite TwinTrak is right up there. While this is not quite the sound of some of the "great" channel strips (Neve, etc) it will provide very nice control on all sorts of sources at a price point where you can afford to have 6 or 8 channels of it.

All in all, not perfect, but an excellent choice for the serious amature through to the serious professional.

This unit has completely changed the sound of my studio(for the better!) I was using Art dual MP, which was OK, but this blows it away. I would honestly buy 2 or 3 more if it werent for 1 thing. Reliability. After 2 months of use the 2nd channel blew and was sent for repair. 6 months later, guess what? Same channel, same problem!I am seriously bummed because I love this pre-amp on vocals, electric and acoustic guitar, kick drum, snare(totally rocks on snare with slow attack). I have used with large diaphram condenser, dynamic, and ribbon mics and it is a winner every time.

A Pre of Beauty!

Focusrite has hit a grand slam with the Twintrak Pro. This 2U rackmount has a remarkable amount of features; I tested units $1,000.00 more that weren't as versatile and didn't produce the same results. I use it primarily for vocals (being a great vocalist), but in the studio my guitarist now loves going direct through it and then into a SansAmp PSA-1. I suspect a lot of instruments would sound fantastic with this. Highly recommended!

A fantastic buy

I've been using this unit for about a month now and it has dramatically boosted the quality of my recordings. I run the outputs of the Twintrak to my computer via a MIA MIDI audio card and into my DAW.

The controls are easy to use and if you don't have a patch bay, you can run everything from the front without turning it around. My only complaint is the lack of an expander and the VU meter cannot be linked to the compressor.

If you need two preamps, this is the piece to buy. If you only need one channel, the VoiceMaster Pro is a bit more flexible. Either way, you can't go wrong. This is an amazing machine.

Perfect Pre Amp

I called it the perfect preamp, not because it is better than anything else, but because for a budget studio it is the perfect price, quality, performance pre-amp without question. I use it primarily on vocals but we've also run guitar through it, miking the cabinet at the grille cloth. I love the "air" feature and agree that it should be left on all the time. The compression is transparent and effective, capturing the organic mouth sounds so popular today. I don't need to compress after the fact and that reduces noise in the mastering stage. It's well worth the money.
