A 24-bit/96khz FireWire interface with pristine audio quality and reliable synchronization. |
The Focusrite Saffire Pro 40, a multichannel FireWire audio interface designed with today s project studio in mind, delivers the sound quality of much more expensive interfaces.
Focusrite's unparalleled preamp legacy forms the foundation of the Saffire Pro 40 interface, with eight award-winning Focusrite preamps. These are combined with the latest in FireWire interfacing technology to deliver seamless integration, excellent routing flexibility and future-proof, rock-solid driver stability.
With the Saffire PRO 40 interface, sonic integrity reigns supreme. The eight Focusite preamps ensure low noise and distortion, while quality digital conversion and JetPLL jitter elimination technology ensure pristine audio quality as your audio flows between the analogue and digital domains.
Alongside the eight Focusrite preamps are a host of I/O options; 10 analog outputs, ADAT I/O, stereo SPDIF I/O, and 2 virtual "loopback" inputs for routing digital audio between software applications. Every channel features phantom power, with the first two channels also featuring -9dB pads for additional headroom. Front panel 5-LED metering for each analog input offers accurate viewing of levels.
Saffire PRO 40 comes with the Focusrite plug-in suite. Focusrite Compression, Reverb, Gating and EQ VST/AU plug-ins provide a significant upgrade from standard sequencer effects, bringing a touch of class to your session. Focusrite s established Xcite+ bundle is also included. The bundle includes Ableton Live Lite, Novation s Bass Station soft synth and over 1 gigabyte of royalty-free samples.
Saffire PRO 40 Control, the zero-latency 18 x 16 DSP Mixer/Router software provided with Saffire PRO 40, sets a new standard at this price point for audio interface control. It features unparalleled output routing and monitoring, as well as intuitive one-click solutions, a clear and concise mixing layout and large on-screen metering for inputs, outputs and submixes.
Two independent headphone buses are provided, each with their own level controls available on the front panel. A dedicated stereo monitor mix output features pads for improved sound quality when connected to active monitor speakers. An 'anti-thump' circuit protects your monitor speakers from spikes when booting up or shutting down. Front panel controls include a main monitor dial with dim and mute switches, all of which fully integrate with customizable software to cover every possible monitoring need, providing a set of controls for any setup from basic stereo to full 7.1 surround.

Ready to Record

I've owned the Saffire Pro 40 for about 4 months now and just recently set it up at the heart of my PC based studio to start tracking an album. The unit itself is well built encompasses alot of functionality with great preamps, phantom power for each input, a great I/O section, pretty sophisticated peak metering and serious headphone output routing, which others in this class just don't have. There is a bit of learning curve with the Mix Control Software and in some cases you should update the software before installing. In my case, everything worked fine with Windows XP right out of the box, but after a couple of Windows updates, my PCI latency started maxing out for no apparent reason. Focusrite support was e-mail based but I did get the initial response within 24 hours and after that we conversed every day. They referred me to some great tools that helped me optimize my system but be prepared to read...if you think your gonna get any interface of this calibre rolling without cracking the manual or going on their "Answerbase" then your fooling yourself. Considering the complexity of recording and playing back at least 8 simlutaneous music tracks through a PC which may or may not be doing other things, its hard to beleive how well it works once optimized. If I had to ask for an improvement it would be that focus right build in the PC optimization tool(s) right into the software, similar to Ableton which similulates 80% CPU usage and allows you to test the Buffer size, etc...they should also build in the Latency analysis tool which they referred me to to monitor system hogging. All in all, I was able to plug in on the first time and record vocals and acoustic with ease and with time and effort am beginning the tracking for a new album with a 4 piece rock band that uses significant keyboards/synths. My only dileman now is how can I get my hands on one more...FRESH OFF THE PRESS - the new mix control software allows you to link two Saf Pro 40's together in "Dual Mode" with just a bit of wiring...and run 16 tracks. That is a great peice of news. Cheers
Tony

This should fall in the same line. After switching from a 410, I noticed that the sound is SO amazing I have to get used to how it sounds

Chris Keyz here, avid musician and just new to the game, I find that I have acquired a mighty fine piece of gear. The Saffire's look is highly favorable, and it's armed with a load of features. Not only is it an interface but it also is a preamp. It comes with 7 extra so that's 8 preamps! 8 GOOD sounding preamps! There is so much to explore with the Pro 40 but so far, I am very satisfied with this box.

This thing SERIOUSLY ROCKS for the $$$. You have to get a TI chip firewire card in your computer, but once you have that working, it is solid, and SOUNDS WAY AWESOME!!! I am VERY hard to impress. This box sounds REALLY AMAZING! Works in Vista 64!!! Very cool box. VERY.
