i used to have a taskam 8track digital recorder and i decided to move up to something with a little more options and a bit more efficient. well, for having this unit for about a year now, i can say that i have'nt hit a snag with it yet. i only have one problem and thats with the preamps. they are good preamps with low noise but they are somehow set on a clip-canceler meaning that when the preamp clips or spikes too high, it will shut of that channel completely and then you have to turn off the unit and turn it back on to get the use of the channel again. but all'n'all, i think it's still a good deal.

I don't usually respond to things like this...But I just love this recorder. When I was twenty I never dreamed I'd have my own recording studio. This thing is so much fun, quality and so much bang for the buck. If you don't have lots to spend, get this one, you'll love it! I'll still be exploring new things to do with it years from now. It's easy to get started using, but I just keep learning new things and enjoying every bit. I get started and I'm lost for hours. Did I say buy it? You won't regret it!!!

I've had my mr-16hd board for over 2 years now. I haven't had a single problem with it. I've recorded 22 full length songs in house and 8 outside live songs. (and trust me I used every track I could and then some) Every song mastered without a hitch. I've recorded in several high end studios and it would be hard to tell the difference in quality.

Because I am not a technologically skilled person by nature (look in the dictionary under "Old School," you'll see my picture!), I was leery about getting this unit. I was silly to worry. This is the easiest to learn, most intuitive digital recorder available anywhere at any price. The sound quality is ridiculously good. The CD's it burns are equivalent in sound quality to ones you buy in a store.

I worked for years in a prestigious recording studio and spent thousands recording my own demos. I wish I'd known then what I know now... I could have done it all on my own in my basement for a few-hundred bucks! Live and learn.

BUY THIS UNIT. You'll love it.

After I had the machine for just over a year..no warranty,,it coped out..burner would not work. Their service department might as well be a ecivres department the reverse of service they are no use at all. This machine is working now after spending another two hundred bucks getting it repaired. I do not buy anything anymore with out the extended warranty. I am considering buying a new Yamaha with extended warranty. But do not buy a fostex unless you want to pay more money for repairs and depend on a worthless tech support department. Ask around do not take my word for it. I was happy for the first year but then....just like it was programed to go out!
