The MR-8HD CD is one of the easiest to use digital multitracks ever—if you can operate a tape recorder, you'll be recording and multitracking within minutes of opening the box. All the essential controls are right where you need them with no confusing menus to wade through. You turn real knobs and slide real faders. It has four-track simultaneous record with mic and guitar amp simulation, reverb, delay, and mastering effects.

The MR8-HD CD features 4 balanced XLR/1/4" jack inputs with phantom power. You can record up to 8 tracks at a time at 16-bit/44.1kHz—uncompressed CD quality—to the internal hard drive, then master and bounce all 8 tracks and record some more. Each dual mic/line input has it's own level control and clip LED. There's a dedicated guitar input with its own analog distortion and control on channel one. All channels feature a 45mm volume fader and dedicated controls for pan and external FX send. The USB interface and the WAV file recording make it a snap to transfer recordings to/from a PC for further editing or CD duplication.

I purchased this product to do some demo tracks for my band because I was tired of waiting for studio time and thought we would try to record on our own. Well let me tell you that this unit coupled with a good tube pre-amp and studio condenser mike are fantastic. When you have folks who know how to play and record, you can get some real fine results. I mean better than some large studios where you are always competing for time and have some person controlling the board with their own ideas. I am getting some GREAT professional sounding tracks and it is easy to use. You can even write to a CD without transfer to a computer. It has a few limitations like no EQ and a strange external effect send input into one channel, but it still sounds great and works well. Best of all, the price was right.

Purchased this recorder after much deliberation. Two friends of mine own the Fostex VFX-80 & VFX-160, & have been pleased with their performance. If you are looking for a digital multi-tracker with great effects... this ain't it!

I was freaking out when I first tried to read the manual( I think the space shuttle has a smaller manual) but after going to Fostex message boards and getting tips for other owners I was recording in no time. This thing is killer! I'm having alot of fun with it, sounds excellent! I got the Black one.

I have had 3 or 4 recorders in the past few years, looking for something thats portable yet powerful. This unit is both! It's by far the easiest to operate, hardly ever looked at the manual. There is however one MAJOR problem I have with it. It has no EQ's per channel!!!! What were they thinking? You can use an external board going down (there went portable) but mixing down, specialy with vocals, EQ is a must! If they would as much as put a single Tone knob on each channel that would be a great inprovment. I love everything else about this unit. Being a vocalist, I really miss having EQ in mix down. Mostly with back ground voc's.

I bought this unit a few weeks ago. The only problem I have had so far is the second earphone jack shorts out when pushed all the way in! You have to push it in and then pull the plug half way out to make sure it connects. This could be a real problem while recording if the plug comes loose...
