Fostex employs the latest cone material technology to obtain extremely pure music reproduction with the PM-1 MKII Active Near Field Studio Monitors. Biamplification provides 75W to the 6.5" LF drivers and 45W to the extremely responsive 1" soft dome HF tweeters. With the MKII upgrades, the tweeters are now a one-piece assembly with a redesigned damper to eliminate interference for clearer high-frequency response, and the speaker cabinets sport a high-gloss piano black finish on their front. The compact Fostex speakers are specially designed to eliminate unwanted resonance and incorporate a long bass port for deep and accurate low-frequency response.

The Fostex PM-1 speakers have carefully tuned enclosures and circuitry that produce great full range performance with exceptional neutrality even at high SPLs. The LF driver cones are made from cut-and-milled aromatic polyamide fibers that are simultaneously resin-impregnated to achieve high rigidity and optimum damping. The cones also have an olefin film thermally adhered to their surface to control frequency response and to ensure long-term reliability. Resin-impregnated cellulose dust caps cover voice coils made of high-purity copper wire to achieve extremely low distortion. Each soft dome tweeter uses UFLC (Poly Urethane Film Laminated Cloth) technology for lightweight and quality performance. Each amplifier is precisely calibrated to match the performance capability of its driver.

I was amazingly surprised when I popped these things into my studio. I run a little demo studio out of my home. They are amazingly clear and accurate. lot's of good solid bottom, a nice smooth mid and crystal clear highs. No noticible notch. Fostex did a great job setting them up. Very open and natural soud and easy to listen to. Plenty of punch and power when the music calls for it. I've changed rooms since the original purchase and I use a seperate eq to maintain flat response from room variations. For the price, they are an awesome deal. Great sound, highly accurate, wonderful lack of presence. I hear the music and not the speaker.

Quality is high. Sound is slightly bright, yet very likeable due to tremendous clarity and resolution. Build quality rocks! The baffle is beautiful and is also 100% defraction free. The actual weight tells you it's solid and is equipped with a well built power supply for the amps. It is excellent as a high resolution hi-fi monitor in a small room. If you add a sub-woofer to take the load of the bass (reproduces lowest octaves while providing filtering of lows to these)you can then use these in even quite large rooms as they will play super loud when not trying to reproduce low bass. In this set-up mode they will amaze you. You'll not believe how loud and unstrained these speakers will play...It totally belies their size! I recommend these without any reservations, especially at their value price. Rock On!

This pair of monitors is very accurate. I made a final mix the day before they arrived and sent it off... i was tempted to ask for it back after listening to that mix through these new amazing monitors and crying at my failure. Unlike most monitors of this price range, you can hear every subtle frequency transient in the low end, making them incredible for mixing live recordings where low end can be very tricky to equalize; like deciding between how tubby a bass guitar is vs. the frequencly response of the bass drum... if i were to draw a frequency response diagram from my experience of them it would look like this... -----------------
