Works for their intended purpose

We have a few of these at our Church (small). The musician's area is small and the size of these fit well in our area. We are beginning to use them in the choir stand; they fit very well under the seats. Works great for vocals. These are not made for low-end frequencies. Electrically speaking, it's OK to have a speaker load (ohms) > your amp load rating. If the speaker load < your amp load...watch out for smoke and flames! With a QSC 2450 amp (2ohm load max/channel), you can daisy chain 6-8 of these to each channel!

Great for Acoustic Group

I initally bought two of these for our acoustic bluegrass-americana group (mandolin/fiddle,guitar,bass,dobro/banjo)and have been very pleased. They are very portable, which is a huge plus over conventional monitors. We now daisy-chain 3 together for our gigs and it works out perfectly. The disadvantage to their size is in the low-end frequencies - so we don't mix much acoustic bass in the monitor. As others have noted, there's a natural boost the mid-range frequencies because of their size, but the bottom line is they are only monitors - we can all hear great, and taking them to gigs is a snap. In several months of use we've had no problems at all. I recommend you give them a shot if you've got an acoustic application. Oh yeah, we rarely use the volume controls, so you may be able to save a little money by getting the cheaper version.

Too much distortion

I set our PA up in a music store on the way to a gig one afternoon and tried this monitor out. You don't get much sound from it before it distorts and forget running a bass singers voice with it. I tried talking in a low tone like a bass or baritone singer would use and it sounded like static on a radio. If you're using this to monitor only a keyboard its good but not the whole mix unless you're just a guitar player and singer.

these are the most incredible speakers to use.Like a prior writer only in a rock situation with the monitors facing the band having forgot to turn the main P.A. volume back up the audience only noted a slihgt difference. In another instance on many occations I have been able to use 4 hotspots to fill the bleachers at a swim meet with total clarity.

Watch the impedance

The Hot Spot is a 16-ohm speaker. Most amps are designed for 8 ohm and lower loads. You have to use two of these in parallel to reach 8 ohms.

Also -- that 16 ohm load is when the volume control on the speaker is at full. At the lowest volume setting, this speaker shows 130 ohms to the amplifier! (See the product manual on Galaxy's web site.)

Finally, they just don't sound that good. Lots of midrange, and IMO a harsh tone. We have two of these, and we're going to replace them with something else.
