Put this side by side with my older chrome 101. The new model has more gain and a protection switch for ribbon mics. No wall wart. A real power cord. A nice upgrade in features from the old model without any radical changes. Easier to read the lettering with the white letters on black. The old 101 is great. This one is greater!

I've been recording for a number of years, and I've learned that making every penny count is rule #1, unless, of course, you're independently wealthy. If so, read no further. This doesn't pertain to you...

For the rest of you, I recently wanted to supplement my Brent Avrill Neve-based Mic Pre with something a little more compact, a little cheaper, but just as good or better performance-wise. My plan was to buy a great little DAW, and have a compact mic pre to optimize analog signals prior to conversion to digital multitracks. Mostly this means Acoustic and voice, with the option to branch out comfortably.

To quote Homer S. "Holy-moly"... The Grace 101 is the perfect compliment to my new Yamaha AW16G in every way. Simply put, this unit details a signal like nothing I've ever heard, with no identifiable coloring. It is exceptionally quiet, while bringing out mid-highs and highs so faithfully I almost don't know I'm listening to digital. For the price, you can do no better. Trust me.
