Good As Mains

I play in a 3-piece classic rock band, and we typically play in some tight places where space is at a premium. I also put all the gear, except the drums, in my PT Cruiser, where space is even tighter. We use spot monitors instead of floor monitors, and we use the JBL JRX112Ms for mains. We push the mains with a 300 w per side Crown amp, and we have no problems being heard; more than once we've been asked to turn down. We only use the PA for vocals, so the sound is crisp and clear. We've even played outdoor gigs with this set up, and were plenty loud. I've found over the years (starting gigging in 1974) that too much low end makes the vocals mushy, and ideally setting the amps to the the same volume as the unmic'd drums keeps a good balance without blowing the windows out and avoids the need to run everything through the PA. With such a set up, these JBLs fit the bill perfectly.

Wow, you'd have to be one picky son-of-a-gun to not like these. I'm on year 3 (about 80 gigs) of using them both as mains in small clubs and monitors outdoors and in larger clubs with no issues at all. A little EQ'ing and these sound great. As mains they are loud and clear with enough low end to easily get you through a club gig, which most of us actual gigging musicians play (no, you don't need to mic the drums in a small club, we can hear you just fine). To anyone who thinks these aren't enough remember, these are not 15" speakers, they are 12". Sometimes we ask a piece of equipment to do something it wasn't made to do and get dissapointed by it. These are very good MONITORS and good small mains. If you want the "chest thump", get subs and drive all the customers out of the bar because you're too loud. Remember, they haven't been bashing their ear drums with too much bass-they can hear just fine.

I like these monitors. They have never failed on me, and they seem to produce the sounds well. Not too harsh, not too muddy. Just good. I wish they got a little louder, but that may just be because I'm not pushing them enough. I would recommend these to anyone.

We have been using these for years. They always sound good, are solid and durable as all get-out. Small speakers are easier to carry and more versatile for various stages.

They are professional-quality at a reasonable price. highly recommended.

Club Band Use

I have two of these speakers I use for monitors and two of the 15" JBL JRX's. These speakers are awesome. I play in a four piece band and use a Carvin RX1200 head to power these speakers. I have never had any problems. These speakers really cut through the mix. Crystaly clear highs, nice mids that jump right out at you, and bass response that does the trick. I really like them. Kudos to JBL for a professional monitor at a price a working musician can afford!
