Coming from Behringer Truth, Up-Grading to M-Audio, followed by Mack-HR Series finally to KRK VXT-8, I can honestly say, I am completely satisfied, although I did keep my Mackie HR's (1st Gen) because I just couldn't give them up as they were my first set of REAL monitors (Sorry M-Audio!) Let me tell you, the imaging is PHENOMENAL! You can instrument placing in your mix better than the HR's (which I thought would be hard to beat). In the right sized and sound corrected room, they reach low enough to make you think there is a small woofer hidden in the room somewhere! Against everybody's popular opinion, I mix with a KRK-10s and filter all "Sub" bass from the KRK VXT-8 to the 10s. HOWEVER, I also took a very very, VERY good amount of time with sound correction, room correction, speaker placement and lots and lots and lots of time balancing the sound between the monitors and subwoofer! Do I recommend it? NO! But, I just had to prove it was possible in spite of popular opinion! LOL!

ANYHOW, the monitors are plenty loud, great for listening parties, the average in-home DJ and jazz and classical music is nothing short of PERFECT...

Mixing is a breeze once you get use to hearing relatively flat and relatively un-colored sound. Unfortunately, for the average ear, this take a bit of getting use to because most are very use to compensating for speakers that lack sound balance.

Features are great, being able to control your hi's and low's is paramount when using a sub (I don't have them directly wired to the 10s so I can by-pass the sub whenever I feel like it). The auto-on-off feature is great, works without any problem or excessive volume in order for them to turn on.

WARNING, these things are hefty and, even without foam absorbers, the transfer minimal sound. The build quality is similar to that of the E8B line, just smaller...

THey look great, they sound great, they mix great, they image great, they tell the truth about your mix and edits and hide NOTHING, they out perform others in the price range above these and they NEVER stop performing, even under stress!

Enjoy, honestly, as a live sound engineer, studio engineer/mixer that does plenty of artist recording, music creation and film scores creation at this price, you REALLY can't go wrong! Eat your heart out JBL (no offense because you product is great too but, KRK out did you guys on this one!)

I bought these babies late last year with the rest of my student loan bursary. I knew it would be a while before I had the money in hand again. As soon as I plugged them into my interface and pressed play I was astounded! Such a crisp playback! I could hear every mistake in my recordings. Unfortunate that I had to redo the edits, but these speakers make it so you can't miss the mistakes in the editing, making your work that much better on normal speakers. A great buy for mid grade monitors.

Since I bought these, I've never had to check and change my mixes more then twice. Extremely clear, extremely flat. I bought these because I couldnt get the JBL's I wanted. Best mistake Ive ever made, for the price, its a steal.

The KRK VXT 8's are great studio monitors. If you are coming from crappy studio monitors, you'll certainly hear new things that you may not have noticed before in your favorite songs with these. If you were suffering with dull mixes before, get these and they will definitely help you to make a much better mix that translates well on any audio source. The system level adjustment switches on the backs of the monitors are useful as well if you need to adjust your monitors to fit the room's acoustics, in order to keep a flat frequency response. I would say that they are comparable to the Mackie HR824mk2's. All in all, great monitors.

As the owner of some Mackie, Adams, KRK, Event and Alesis studio monitors, I have to say, these monitors have made me a solid KRK fan.

Mackies promote their counter-resonance technology. Adams tout their ribbon technology. Event makes a great monitor on the cheaper end. In the end, the strong points of these monitors are their downfall. Let me explain -

The counter-resonance technology of Mackie doesn't exist in the consumer world. Even though this is the most accurate sound monitoring, it's not accurate to what the end listener hears (the bass shakes for a moment more than these do). Inevitably, the mixes from the Mackie rooms end up sounding "dark." Adams sound amazing - but again, with few ribbon tweeters in the hands of consumers, the detail in the sound is lost. The mix ends up sounding muddy. Events are just a bit too... cheapy. Alesis are good, but a bit dark and noisy.

Among all the monitors I own - I like the concept of a good tweeter and a good kevlar round to best emulate what 95% of the end listener will be hearing on.

Among these types, I think KRK is the best: no weird a-typical technology, just great, uncolored sound. The E8's were great, the V8's were darn good, and now there's the VXT8: the best all-around studio monitor for quality, accuracy, and price without compromise.
