The Korg D888 Digital Recording Studio is an 8-input/8-output mixer and 8-track hard disk recorder in one simple-to-use unit. Best of all, for those used to analog recorders, the D888 has a very analog-like look and feel that's comfortable and very easy to use. The D-888 provides 16-bit/44.1kHz uncompressed recording quality with 8 tracks simultaneous play and record in WAV format. The recording section has uncomplicated tools like punch-in/out, copy and swap operations, 4 editing locate points for each song, 100 mark points, non-destructive editing, Undo and Redo functions, 11 types of digital master effects, and 3-band EQ on each channel. I bought my unit about 3 years ago. The built in preamps borderline on useless. I had to spend more money on a preamp. I have never gotten a good recording micing acoustic guitar. At first I chalked it up to inexperience, but now I have used a boss br-1180, protools, and taken a class on recording. Knowing what I know now, I wish I never bought this.

I have been using the Korg D888 for almost three years!!! The EQ's are OK, the preamps ARE not bad, and the fact that u can record 8 Mics at a time is AWESOME!!!
The quality on it is'nt the best but the Cubase program will do just right for editing and mastering!!!
Untill you can upgrde to a Mac and Firewire interface this will work perfectly!!!

I purchased this product about a year and a half ago and I have been completely satisfied! The machine is extremely simple to use, and I have had no problems with it whatsoever! (and I'm new to recording). The board has great eq control, which really distinguishes this board from other digital recorders.
I know some people have been complaining about the poor pre-amp, but I have been able to solve that problem just by making sure the trim knob was adjusted properly. Sure vocals could be improved with a pre-amp, but overally, I'm satisfied with the way that vocals come out in my recordings.
Overall, it's an extremely awesome board that is soooo worth the money! If you're contemplating between buying this board or a Boss/Tascam board, choose this one because it's great!

I've owned my D888 about 2 years now and used it for live gigs & home / demo recording. I was disappointed in its preamps (fine for electric guitar / acoustic guitar with pickup) but definitely needs more boost for most mics. I'm using ART TUBE MP preamps for 4 channels of the input and then directly connecting the guitars. GREAT at what it does - simple to use to record great sound. The effects are not great, but OK to play around with. Primarily buy it if you want a portable, easy to use, digital recorder that will record exactly what is input to it and you're not worried about needing built in preamps or effect processors.

In the short time I've owned my Korg D888 .(just after the 1 year warranty was up) the hard drive went bad after only using this unit for very minimal use. There is only 1 authorized Korg service tech. in a 450 mile radius of where I live and I had to drive an hour to get it there. I had to pay $140.00 total for him diagnosing what the problem was, a used refurbished 40GB hard drive and his installing the hard drive. The service tech also pointed out that he always sees some sort of padding around or under the hard drive and that the Korg D888 had NO PROTECTION for its hard drive (to absorb any kind of shock or vibration). Also I'm unhappy about the low gain for input signals, so plan on buying a preamp to boost the input signals when you record or they will be at too low of of a gain reading. I wish I would have known these issues. I wouldn't have purchased it.
